At The Beginning
While it was obvious that Becca and Jason were the clever ones in her family, Jules wouldn’t have labelled herself as dumb either. Studying just didn’t come as easily to her and neither did sitting still, which was probably the main factor for why she’d ended up in Gryffindor. Known for bravery, it was also the house where everyone tended to act before thinking, and that was Jules to a tee most of the time. Still, despite all that, nobody could say that Jules didn’t work her arse off. She wasn’t about to be the first Goldstein to fail a class.
Thankfully today was a Tuesday, which meant double Transfiguration and then double Potions with the Ravenclaws, and if there was one class she kicked arse in, it was Potions. Jules wasn’t top of her class or anything, but she was close and that was enough for her. And obviously enough for Luke, the cute Ravenclaw she’d kissed at the end of fourth year, who’d found her at the start of their first 5th year Potions class and asked her to be his partner. He’d seemed to have forgotten the part where she’d made him cry a day after they’d kissed, and she sure as hell wasn’t going to remind him. Things like that didn’t happen to her every day - people rarely ever picked her first for anything, save for Quidditch - so she’d said yes without much thought.
But recently a different cute Ravenclaw had been on her mind, and said Ravenclaw didn’t seem to be having much luck with her own partner, who was once again cursing at her for ruining yet another potion - the third in a row. And here Jules had thought that Alice was good at everything, but apparently that was far from true if the smell of burning wood said anything about her potion making skills.
