Love your photos! I've taken some photos at Mingo Junction, Steubenville, and Weirton in the past. They're wonderful sites. But I saw last May that the Steubenville steel mill was demolished. It's sad. Hope Mingo Junction steel mill is still standing
Thanks much for the compliment. You run a great blog!
I agree, the entire Ohio Valley is impressive, all along the river.
A portion of the mill in Steubenville south of the Market Street bridge is still standing from what I could see, but I didn't focus much on it to be honest.
The older buildings at the northernmost part of Mingo Junction are gone but most of the complex is still intact. I understand there's a new furnace that was installed about 10 years ago and it's possible it could be restarted, but I think that's highly unlikely considering the startup and energy costs.
The mill in Weirton is still in operation, even with the demolition and abandonment of other parts of the mill. The nearly abandoned residential area north of the blast furnaces--the numbered streets north of Avenue A--have foundation ruins, a few abandoned houses, and homes that are still in use, surprisingly. Really interesting history, and terribly sad.
If I lived closer I could return multiple times and become familiar with the entire area. As it is, I'm not sure when or if I'll ever make it back.
