Why I love theatre
I love creating something out of virtually nothing One week you've got nothing and the next you have a whole set and blocking and lines and what was once an empty stage becomes ur home I love watching the cyc change from white to whatever color I make it. I love the blue HS lights and the warm HS lights But I think the boom and box lights are my favorite!! I love the smell of sawdust and the sound of drilling because it means productivity and creation of entirely new setpieces I love the sound of the voices reverberating throughout the house during a 3 part harmony And I love the 9 volt batteries that truly keep the show going on I love the click of the keys on the lightboard when I'm programming and the little "whirrr" of the scroll when I change the percentage I love the echoing thud of feet in the catwalks and the weight of a headset on my head I love the burning heat of the bright lights, preferably Spots 40/50, on my skin and the sound of my costume swishing as I move I love the way all the lights swirl together in perfect harmony like the music that's being sung I love booth dancing. Enough said. I love the weight of a libretto in my arms and the scratch of the pencil on paper as I'm drawing sets I love reading musical lyrics and linking lighting with the music and designing lights for that song in my head I love the echo of the hollow stage beneath my feet and the smooth roll of the wheels on a wall from one wing to the other And I love climbing 18 foot ladders just to get a perfect paint job I love the loud clang of metal and the sound of unfolding instructions as we're trying to build a setpiece but miserably failing I love the strong smell of paint and the sound of heavy metal doors opening to ventilate the place bc we're actually dying I love the stroke of the highlighter on the pages of my script as I mark my lines and cues But I also love the smooth roll of the pen as I write my own cue sheet in almost complete darkness I love everything about the idea of creation and creativity and expression through art. To make someone happy while also doing But I think the thing that I love the most about theatre are the smiles that I see on so many people because of it something that you are truly passionate about brings so much love into the world Seeing the smiles on little kid's faces or the tears of genuine emotions on adults and knowing that I was a part of that, That's what I love. That the work that we did, that this show that we worked so hard on, made other people happy. And that's why I love theatre.
