A Number of Names - Share Vari (Tv show "The Scene", Detroit USA)
I'm so excited about this one! It's for a very personal reason. Back in the first years of 2000 I started going into a club called Bunker 94 in Copacabana, and I was lucky to watch great artists such as Miss Kitten, The Hacker and Vitalic. It was the high time of Electro-Clash, led by DJ Hell and his label International Gigolo Records. Vitalic and The Hacker made a remix that I loved called Shari Vari.
The real essence of Electro-Clash with that very particular whipping beat and vintage-castelvanian synths. At the time it was very hard to find information about songs online and I could not find where it came from. 10 years passed and now found out that Sharivari was a track composed by A Number of Names back in 1981 and is considered to be THE first ever techno track!
Why is it so important? Well, Detroit is the birthplace of techno and it's almost the missing link between genres. Please watch the video and you will understand where techno comes from. We are talking about Disco! And we are talking about House music and Funk. Those responsible for the Detroit techno birth? Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, Alson known as the Belleville Three.
Great names are also Jeff Mills, Ritchie Hawtin (Plastikman)and Carl Craig. And the two major collectives at the time were Underground Resistance and +8.
Detroit techno has and still influences many artists around the world. If you are interested in knowing more about the history of house music and their legendary artists, check out this documentary: Pump up the Volume.
