Benpoe + 41 (lets get some fluff)
41. Things you said you loved about me.
“Are you using cologne?”
Well. So much for being subtle.
“Uh? No?” Was Ben Solo’s answer and everyone at the meeting table looked back at Poe, like some kind of game.“I swear for the Force, you smell like cologne…” He leaned front, near Solo’s neck and the taller man frowned. “Uh… sorry.”
Smooth, Leia though as she shook her head, clearing her throat and making everyone in the war room remember why they were here in the first place. Just a little embarrassed but still curious, Poe gave her a small nod and apologized with his brown eyes. The general continued her little speech, Finn was laughing at the other side of the table and Rey had elbow him softly so he will stop, but when her father appeared to not find a stop to his own muffled giggles, she sighed and gave Poe an apologetic smile. Nah, he though, none of it; it was fine, he asked for it. I mean, who in the name of the Maker interrumpted a war council just to ask his ex-lover if he was wearing cologne? This pilot right here, Poe smiled.
It has been a small thing, something that remained him of the old days with his friend. Holding hands, doing pranks, talking shit, stealing ships and exchanging clothes before midnight, before going to bed and wishing each other’s good night with a quick kiss and a laugh. Good days, innocent days. He sighed, soon following another’s captains inform and Ben’s, Ren’s, who ever he is now’s, scent surrounded him once more. This was his damn fault, he shouldn’t had stood at his side, they hadn’t truly talked ever since he came back and spent a life time in observations and then in auto home arrest at the Organa Manor.
Poe moved his head to one side. Actually, they did talk when he was still at the medic bay, or at least, Poe had talked. Well, to be honest, he had yelled. He had yelled more than ten years of grief and wondering, what went wrong and what he could have done easily, and then, he had yelled some more about not only betrayal but disappointment and how much of an ass he was. The man had looked at him with those big, brown, deep eyes full of sorrow, solemn sorrow. He had just took all of Poe’s pain, accepted his hated words, and nodded in agreement. An apologize that Poe knew was honest, and then his silence.
It pissed him off even more, actually.
“You are wearing cologne…” He incisted in a murmur.
Ben looked at his side, to where Poe stand with crossed arms and a frown. The younger man blinked a couple of times before returning his attention to the council, looking at his cousin laughing now. This was not happening to him right now. His first interaction with Poe after the screaming at the medic bay, and it was about cologne. Cologne. Worst part was, he wasn’t wearing any! For real. And just the idea that he may smell bad was driving him crazy, it was too inapropiate and it’s not like if he needed more motives to be looked at with disapproval. Now this kriffing pilot, stanidng right to his side, crossing his arms and saying stupid things. How was he supposed to live like this?
“I’m not wearing any.” He answered in the same lowered tone, looking at him for a second.“Yes, you are.” Poe wanted to actually yell that, but mantained his voice even. “I know you do, you used to wear that one before.”
Once more, Ben blinked. What the kriff? He closed his eyes for seconds too long, listening at the voices around him like if under water, letting go of a deep sigh and looking back at Dameron again.
“That’s just my natural scent, commander.”“Sure thing, buddy.”
Are you kidd– No. Ben remained himself he shouldn’t let his temper get on his way, he remembered his psicological lessons and meditations with the other force users in the room back in the manor. This man was not going to make him lose it. Again.
“Which one is? Sefora or Hax?”“Maker, I’m not wearing cologne, commander.”
“Solo, Dameron.” Leia called, both man looked up in hurry. “Someting to offer?”
“Actually, General. While I agree our tactic is cleaner than the First Order’s and we may pass their radars, there is a problem.” Ben announced and Poe looked at him slowly. “They know that.“
Well. Kid knows his shit.
He kept talking explaining Maker-knows-what with Maker-knows-who. The problem with the cologne is that it makes Poe stupid, or something like that. It was the same scent he always liked on his friend back when they were kids, and the scent that drive him crazy on his teen days, the scent he missed on his twenties when they exchanged more than kisses. And now, it had come back to haunt him, like a goddamn ghost story. And maybe it wasn’t the cologne what was upsetting him, maybe it was jut this tall, idiot of a man standing besides him.
“Why haven’t you talked to me?” Poe asked again in a murmur.Ben looked at him incredulously. “You told me not to.”“When?” He asked in a louder tone, thre were eyes on them again. “Sorry.”
They looked at the other at the same time, then back at front and listened. This could had been worse.

“What is the matter with you?” Finn asked Poe once they were dismissed, Rey and Ben still inside with their parents. Poe shook his head. “If you are going to talk to the guy, at least wait for a moment less crowed maybe? And you know, less public.”“I know. I KNOW.” He answered, “I just… his kriffing cologne, It was distracting me! He hadn’t changed in years, I was just taken aback by it.”Finn looked at him with a smirk, crossing his arms. “Cologne? His cologne was distracting you?” He said, Poe tried to correct himself but it was to late. “Maker, you are lost.”
Like summoned by their babbling, Ben appeared at the door behind Rey and Luke, eyes lowered to the ground a if asking permission to walk over it. Elbowing him, Finn smiled at Poe when the man looked at his side, “There is the cologne guy, poe”“Shut up, man!”
Rey giggled, Ben was looking right at Poe now and he stepped forward, better get over this match for once. So the older twins and Rey walked over, saying their goodbye to the taller man and taking Finn with them, who was only giggling with his own girlfriend. Kriff them, this was not going to end well anyway.
“Okay, so…”“You need to stop bothering me, we are not twelve anymore.” Ben said, too firm to be serious, if he was anything like before.“Excuse me, I am bothering you? You don’t talk to me for almost an entire year and then stand at my side wearing three gallons of cologne!”“I’m not wearing cologne!” He said, his cheeks were starting to turn red. “I have never use cologne in my life, it irritates my skin, moron!”“How’s that? No, you have been using the same damn intoxicating cologne since we were kids! I was sure yo were stealing it from your dad, is too strong!”“That’s my natural smell, you idiot!”
Silence.
“So, you are telling me that the uncalled blast from the past came from your natural smell?” Poe sounded too incredulous to be true, Ben only sighed. “Okay….”“What? I thought you liked it.”“Come again?”Ben looked at him for almost an entire minute, frown too deep in his face. “You once told me you loved it.”“Uh…” Maybe that was why it was bothering him so much, isn’t it? He stopped for a second or two before sighing. “Yeah, well. Things change, I guess.”“Yeah, I can see that.”
As the silence grow between them, Ben decided it was time to disappear, he quickly nodded as a good bye and walked fast towards the path his family has took. Poe looked at his great escape, his brain sending him big, red, signals that it was time to go in the other direction too, but he started to pout and kick his feet in the ground, this asshole was going to drive him crazy.
“Hey!” Poe took his arm and tangled it with his, walking with the taller man. “Have lunch with me, Solo.”“What?“Have. Lunch. With. Me.” He looked up, then smiled a little. “Come on.”
