Something @epicfroggz wrote struck me and got me replying and then I ended up in my feels and yeah sorry for the philosophical comment but... that's the way my brain works when it comes to Murdoch... --------------------------

Sobbing. As much as I wish William had lived through it, if only for Ada's sake, deep down I think this is the brutal truth. He would have defended his actions at the hearings (although they did not need defending), he would have sat stoic and calm as always, that steady gaze right back at those who would seek to smear his name, and lay out the cold hard truth of what it is like to face death, to hold so many in your hands, and be unable to save them all 😭

But over time, I think it would have worn at his soul; in the small hours of the night, that increasingly persistent niggle, worrying at his conscience: were they right? Could he have done better? The sights and sounds of what happened that night… as cruel an end the ice-cold sea, crueler still the one that takes the strength & heart of a kind man and wears him down until he welcomes oblivion. -------------------------

Happy Birthday to my Dad who passed away 4 years ago. He would’ve known what to say to me during these times to make me feel better. He grew up so poor, then served in the Army during WW2, surviving some of the most gruesome, terrible battles in history. Afterward, he made a nice life for himself in spite of a limited education because of his circumstances. He was smart & carved out his own path. He endured much pain & suffering but would have said he was a lucky man who had many great life experiences “even the bad ones served a purpose.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ He supported Toddle Tunes in any & every way he could. He believed in and loved the power of music. I’m proud to have those steel genes, that Irish/Scottish blood, that tenacity that comes from humble beginnings & fearless hearts running in my veins as I navigate through an uncertain future. Thank you Dad from your daughter.
