YOU HAVE A VIZSLA??!!! YOU'RE THE FIRST PERSON I'VE COME ACROSS
I don’t! My parents do! But I only live a block and a half from my parents, and Goofus jogs down to visit regularly. I think he considers my place simply an extension of pack territory.
He originally belonged to an arsewipe who lived two doors down from them, but he locked the poor dude out of the house and essentially ignored him. Maybe threw some dog food out there now and then. Yelled at him a lot and threw things when he would whine, and gave him exactly zero attention. If you know Vizlas, this is the worst thing possible for them; they’re called velcro dogs because they are sensitive by nature and love to be loved.
Mom found him curled up cold and miserable on their back porch one frosty night in fall, after he dug under his old owner’s fence. Vizla’s have very short coats and no undercoats; they do not handle cold well.
Animals in need tend to home in on Mom and me, and he must have picked up her vibes because he made a beeline for their house and commenced pathetic whimpering. It worked. She brought him in for the night, and the next day went down to the arsehole and informed him that if he wasn’t going to take care of the dog she was. He didn’t seem to care and just shrugged, and just like that he was my parent’s dog.
He was skinny and dehydrated thanks to neglect, but now he’s a very happy healthy spoiled boy.
