”You know, tried that once already. Can’t say there was any dignity involved.”
The response was meant to be light and flippant, but his voice was strained, and it came out as a low, pain tinged growl. Spike took a bit longer than normal to stand, his every movement weighed down by the sharp throbbing pain in his ribs, and the rather irritating trickle of blood that was seeping into his left eye.
He’d be sporting a couple colorful bruises for the rest of the week, even with his accelerated healing. Bugger it all, he might even have to take a couple of days easy after this little encounter. He shook his head as if to rid himself of the pain, managing a slight tilt of his lips as he looked up at the other man. “Though, I’d appreciate it if everyone didn’t bloody always go for the face. It’s my second best feature.”
Angel arched an eyebrow, “No, I don’t think anything you’ve ever done was done with dignity...Startin to think you don’t have any,” he said, his voice soft but almost inquisitive. He pushed his jaw out to the right before he shrugged his shoulders and looked down at Spike, his head tilted to the side now as he took stock of the injuries he could see and hear. “Your ribs are broken,” he pointed at his right side. He could hear the bones rubbing when he moved.
“And you don’t have any good features so how can your face be your second?” he asked. “Go sit down. I’ll...get you something to eat.” Angel sighed as he went to his fridge and picked out a bag of blood, squirting it into a mug and heating it up. “Here. D’you need...I dunno some bandages? So you don’t...y’know bleed all over my...everything?”
