WAIT CLEAR THIS UP FOR ME: ARE THE ODD THOMAS BOOKS GOOD? I watched the movie purely for Anton Yelchin and I enjoyed it despite some of the lesser astounding special effects. I want to read the books but not if they're not worth the time.

YES NO YES THEY ARE BUT LIKE IN A WEIRD EVERY OTHER WAY

Like Odd Thomas is one of the most complete and beautiful and perfect novels I've ever read it's just it's incredible and there are so many characters and gems of dialogue that the movie didn't have time for plus Odd and Stormy's backstories were both cut because test audiences found them too dark but they make both characters make so much more sense.

Forever Odd...was not my fave. Odd has this gorgeous monologue at the end which is one of the few times everything really REALLY gets to him and it's heartbreaking but the rest of it was a little exhausting.

BROTHER ODD IS AMAZING ODD FIGHTS OFF THIS SUPERNATURAL THING WITH A BUNCH OF BADASS MONKS AND NUNS ON A MOUNTAIN LIKE JUST TRUST ME IT'S GREAT

Odd Hours was fine but turned Odd into a gun-toting action hero a little too much and it felt off.

Odd Apocalypse was FREAKING WEIRD but I mean Odd meets Nikola Tesla so that's a plus

DEEPLY ODD IS AMAZING AND ODD HITCHHIKES WITH THIS AMAZING OLD LADY AND SHE HELPS HIM TAKE DOWN A SATANIC CULT AND IT'S GREAT OMG

basically it's a hit-or-miss series but I just really love Odd he's just so full of love and hope and kindness and humor and he has a gorgeous way of narrating things (it almost sounds a little Night Vale-y sometimes). 10/10 would recommend. They're some of my favorite books.

As the two doctors left, Rosa shared a grin with Sandy. “Keep in line, she says,” she snorted.

Alarms were blaring through the whole ship, the red, overhead lights giving it a much more dramatic effect. 

Absolutely uncalled for, Rosy thought, as the ship gave another violent shudder.

"Captain! We have lost life-support on Deck 3! No casualties." A lieutenant called on the bridge.

"Get us out of here, Helmsman!"

"Trying, Captain! Thrusters are at 64% capacity!"

"We’re being hailed, Captain!" 

The screen flickered for a second before a familiar face appeared. “I thought you said you had this one!” Rosy told the bounty hunter.

"I did!" Sandra paused, her ship ripping at the seams behind her. "And then I didn’t…"

Rosy sighed, “Sandy, do you have any idea how pissed—” 

She stopped. An insistent beeping coming from her captain’s chair filled the room, making her stomach flip. She turned her back to the screen and went to answer the call, leaning very closely so that—hopefully—nobody else would be able to listen in.

"…Captain speaking," she said with as much courage as she could muster.

“What. The hell. Where you. Thinking." the CMO’s voice came through the comm.

"Hey~, Santana! Um… I’m kind of in the middle of an emergency here. Not a good time to talk—"

"Avert this crisis and see me in my office immediately. And bring that other scoundrel with you." She paused. "If you don’t show up as soon as we’re out of imminent danger, it better be because you are in too much pain to do so. Or I swear, I’ll give you something painful to complain about."

Rosy became immobile for another minute after the call was disconnected, making sure, by ear, that the ship was navigating safely out of danger—minus minimal damage.

When she finally turned around, she found her friend still on-screen, but this time broadcasting from Deck 1.

"I got the goods!" She grinned happily, lifting one hand to show a satchel with writings native to the moon they had just left behind. "What’s wrong? You look pale."

The captain swallowed hard. “We’re in trouble.”
