Are You Going to Watch The World Series?

This year, MLB was hoping for at least one of the Los Angeles teams to be playing in the World Series. Instead, we’re getting a dominant playoff team with the Giants and a team that hasn’t been to the playoffs since they won it all (who seem more dominating than ever).

I think MLB should embrace a series like this and take advantage of the storyline. A championship series without the big cities can still make for an entertaining outcome. Think about what you love about the game and use that while you watch this series. This will be a fun series to watch and hopefully we get to see some late game dramatics. So, my question is, who do you want to win?

At what point do we hang ‘em up? Is it when we feel ready (when are we ever ready)? When we’re told by our friends, family, or public opinion?

Retirement has a different meaning with professional athletes than with the general public. Us mere mortals typically work decades and retire in our mid-sixties (if we’re lucky). Athletes retire at half the age with more than enough money to last a few lifetimes. But, I digress.

It’s sad to see our idols leave the game, especially when they’re past their prime. Past all of the glory and accolades. Why are we sad when we see an athlete like Derek Jeter leave the game? For me, it’s because of what he represented: Playing at the highest level for the most decorated team in American sports history. He represented what it meant to be a New York Yankee, what we miss in the world of sports: smart, hard-working, classy, and lovable. He represented the champion. The “get-it-done-at-all-cost” player. We’re sad when an athlete like Derek Jeter leaves the game because a little part of us leaves with him: the clutch hits, postseason moments, post game interviews. It’s sad, but we’ll all move on.

He’s just not going to be there. In uniform. Playing for the Yankees. Number 2 will always be number one.

old email sideblogs always sound like a good convenient idea and then they suCK
