Wanted to show off an oddball from my collection, a Bb McIntyre system clarinet. These were patented by the McIntyre brothers in the 1950's and only a few thousand were made. The brothers owned and operated a music shop in Naugatuck, CT, and wanted to fix the "problem" of gretting over the break. They chose to redesign the entire upper stack by eliminating G#/Ab key and the A key. G#/Ab is played by the left hand ring finger, add the middle finger for A, then the pointer finger for Bb/A#. Pressing the thumb or F key will close the top tone holes. Consequentially, the system did not catch on, but having a functional horn in my posession makes good conversation and an excellent educational tool. Will get a video up soon!
