The people saying “you can say Rick and Morty” clearly weren’t around in the days of early internet Harry Potter fandom. And yes, that is my go-to example. I know. I was there. Also every other fandom ever.

Rick and Morty is just the most recent example, so it’s still a sore spot for a lot of people.  But oh man, I have so many examples.  Sad, sorrowful examples.

Every fandom has its good chunk of insanity.  There’s a LOT in Harry Potter fandom, I think because that fandom is just so big, it eventually absorbed all the crazies.  But yeah, I’ve never been in a fandom that didn’t have some.

You mentioned that Ogata teased the audience with an SDR2 anime. Like, a serious tease or just fucking with us? (because I did enjoy DR3 a lot but I would seriously consider trading it for a SDR2 anime... so long as it isn't a rush job)

As in she was clearly fucking with everyone, because Ogata likes to troll.

At this point I think it’s pretty clear that we will never get a Dangan anime that isn’t a rush job, unfortunately.

You mentioned you didn't like SDR2 Chapter 3 from a story perspective very much. Would you ever consider doing a rewrite of DR1 or SDR2 like you did for the DR3 anime?

I clearly have opened a can of worms, haha.

I suppose I could do that, though I will warn you that it would take quite a while–remember that the DR3 suggestions took me months to conceptualize, draft, and rework to the point where I felt comfortable presenting them, haha. Also I don’t think any of the games in the series had been in as dire of a need of fixing as DR3.

So it’d be less like a rewrite, and more like “Here’s what I would have done if given these bits to work with” kinda deal.

(My internet cut out so sorry if this is a duplicate). I think you could fix DR3 without having to change much at all. Chisa could be the mastermind, easily (in fact I thought they were implying as much at the end of Despair-side ep.11). She set it up (manipulating Munakata and Tengan - maybe Tengan knows more than he lets on but thinks it'll drive Mitarai to act) to cause Munakata to despair. Her own death is a bonus to her. Maximum despair. (1/2)

(2/2) Then I’d have only the SDR2 survivors storm the island in Side: Hope, the rest still in their coma pods on the ship (so there’s hope of them reviving but its ambiguous). Mitarai joins them as a sort of penance for trying to brainwash the world. Kirigiri survive but disfigured from the poison (I am grim and awful). Because Side: Hope’s biggest weakness was that it was missing consequences.             

Also, your rewrite was fascinating and also because of the could-be-read-as-gay Togami I’m going to replay/rewatch with him in a whole new light now :) Awesome!

I definitely think that Yukizome could have worked as the mastermind as well, but I decided to be a bit more ambitious and do something no one would expect. Yukizome felt a bit too obvious to me after a certain point personally, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t still work!

Besides, I was tweaking the overall themes for the series and trying to do other things like giving Naegi some badly needed character development that wasn’t just “my best friend/love interest died and now I’m sad :(” you know?
