Saw your notes on the TEotH post. How do you wish the reunion had been handled? Would love to hear!
tbh it goes a lot deeper than the reunion. i just have a major issue with how they were kind of barely treated as a real couple in the show and we really dont even know what they like about each other. dylan gives his tiny little monologue on liking marco and wanting him back, but what should really influence them getting back together is what makes marco love someone so much that he’s clearly not over him and actually willing to work on forgiving him for cheating. if we had at least a bit more development of their relationship before that point, and more indication that marco missed him instead of it only being apparent in that specific episode i feel like it would have been much better. people who liked them together have to fill in the gaps for reasons why they like each other and theres really not much context for why they’d like each other to that extent. so i feel like thats why so many people consider their relationship to be particularly toxic (despite as dysfunctional/less dysfunctional compared to a lot of popular couples)
its also so wild to me that the degrassi graphic novel about their relationship was actually really great and somehow had a better representation of aspects of their relationship compared to the show, even in one of the novels that isnt even about them marco talks about setting boundaries in a relationship and how he and dylan set specific boundaries after getting back together (that would have been AMAZING if they had talked about that on a teens show in like 2005/2006)
i also lowkey feel like the episode did a better job of showing how similar tim was to marco compared to what marco and dylan had in common/liked about each other which is why i feel like so many people feel like tim was better for marco despite tim being an empty shell of a character. that kinda upsets me even more because i feel like marco really needed to have FRIENDS who understood his experiences but they just didnt let him other than really alex and they didnt really have one to one conversations about anything and paige who never really reached any point of acceptance of any sexuality. he also easily could have been marco’s boyfriend in season 5 for a while to show marco branching out and gaining more experience beyond dylan but instead they just had them in limbo
but anyway back to the point. if i had to change the episode specifically i feel like they easily could have had marco talk about why HE liked dylan and why he would take him back. and maybe mention that they really needed to discuss their relationship and set boundaries that they were too young and stupid to understand when they were younger.
overall however i wish there was more development
