Any great leader needs cats they can depend on, and Whitefire has been by her sister’s side through roughest the marshes had to throw at them. As kittens, Whitefire never would’ve guessed that Hawkshell would be the one to end the fighting between Oak and Marsh Colonies, but when Hawkshell set her mind to it, Whitefire knew it was only a matter of time. That’s just the kind of cat her sister is.
Whitefire wouldn’t say she has the same kind of hard-headed determination, but she was always there to find a way to make Hawkshell’s plans come to fruition. She did hesitate when Hawkshell asked her to be her Second in Command, but the Colony and Council seemed to be in agreement that Whitefire was the perfect cat for the job. When she accepted the position, she jokingly scolded Hawkshell, “When I’m no longer your Second, you better choose someone outside the family. You could be accused of keeping power in the family, you know.”
And seasons came and gone, and through strife, hardships, and joys, somehow the two sisters remained the constant in Marsh Colony. Whitefire saw her own daughter grow up to find a mate and have her own kittens, and the Colony slowly healed from the years of conflict that her and Hawkshell had grown up with. Even Hawkshell’s son, Sunfire, would provoke fights at the Oak Colony border just for fun, rather than the serious affair something like that would have been just years prior.
Satisfied with the state that Marsh Colony was in after many years of dedicated service, Whitefire knew it was time to step down. It was finally time to make good on what she told her sister all those years ago. “You know, Leafstorm is young, but with a little guidance, I think our little envoy could be the next Captain.” She had told Hawkshell. Leafstorm was community focused, and had a strong sense of duty to her fellow cats. Just the kind of ideals Whitefire and Hawkshell had worked for.
Whitefire is happy in retirement. And with Council Meetings, she never truly feels disconnected from her Colony. She’d still do anything for her sister, and helping her move on from the past is just the next step.
