Lyle Lovett’s early-90s take on the Tammy Wynette country standard “Stand By Your Man” grabbed attention because he didn’t change any of the words, which was a gutsy thing to do then, especially in country music. Today, times have changed, but his take holds up because he sang the absolute hell out of it; it’s a fantastic rendition, gender politics be damned. The transgender shading was fitting, however, because it’s from the soundtrack of The Crying Game, and the B-Side of this pretty Jukebox-Only 45 is Boy George’s take on that movie’s title track.
