27. WHAT IS THEIR BIGGEST REGRET ?
depends on the verse, but it’s two-fold. in crimson flower, his biggest regret is not betraying the empire. the decision wracks him regardless of verse, but immediately following ( i.e. during time skip ) he regrets his choice. the only reason he stays initially is out of obligation —– as the new duke aegir, he sees it as his duty to support and fight for the empire. but also … edelgard stripped his house and status, and is essentially holding his family, estate, territories, possessions, everything hostage so to speak —– just look at what arundel does with house aegir when ferdie isn’t there —– and that fear is a major reason he stays. in that regard, he feels trapped, and also that he was a coward for not, quite literally, fighting back against it.
thankfully, once the professor returns and the stalemate is broken, and once he gains a better understanding of edelgard’s goals ( and especially once he learns about TWS post-war ), his sense of regret is quick to fade.
likewise, in any other verse, it’s betraying the empire. he never, ever feels good about betraying the empire —– his home —– no matter the circumstance, even when he himself feels utterly betrayed by edelgard. while the sense of regret is assuaged in crimson flower, it’s never assuaged in any other verse; he lives with it the rest of his life, always wondering if he fulfilled the right purpose, or if he was meant to die alongside edelgard and hubert.
49. IF THIS PERSON WERE TO GET INTO A FIST FIGHT, WHAT IS THEIR FIGHTING STYLE LIKE ?
ferdinand’s not particularly skilled in hand-to-hand combat but he’s no stranger to it either. he doesn’t get into fist fights often anymore ( he was much more predisposed to it in his youth, he’s always had a bit of a temper and is ... dare i say ... easily offended ), nowadays when he does it’s almost always impulsively —– like in his caspar supports, ha ha ----- and usually defending other people rather than himself.
as far as fighting style, he’s not really all that flashy with his fists as he is with a lance / axe / sword ( and he prefers to fight from horseback anyway ), but he doesn’t hold back either —– as per his manuela supports and his personal ability, he is very nimble and sure-footed so it would be tough for anyone inexperienced to land a blow on him. he does always fight honorably, and that includes any … back-alley tussles. he’s not one to fight dirty and once his opponent cedes, that’s the end of it. he will probably even help them back to their feet.
why do you ask hubert. dost thou desire to tussle ? huh ?? HAVE AT THEE HUBERT !
