thinking a lot about the hopes lore that aegir seemingly ignores the church's tenants and just has blatant open relations with morfis.... boramas being a huge magical + trading hub.... and ports apparently are super scarce, with enbarr and boramas being two of very very few....

when house aegir is stripped and its imperial assets/funds are frozen, I think ferdie would be sneaky and take out a massive loan from morfis. CF ferdie would do it too, behind edelgard and hubie's back cuz he's salty (and doesn't totally trust them to do right by his house)

and then naturally he would just casually mention it during a war council or something later

While his insults used to be more surface level and based on Ferdinand's behaviour, it was easy enough to touch him closer where it hurt these days now that they know each other well. A benefit he might have enjoyed back at the academy but not in this moment when they had professional matters to attend to.

"You do love to exaggerate, Ferdinand. We are not at the Opera House so you can stop your theatrics." His voice was filled with annoyance and he was ready to send the man off just to be done with this situation. It was absolutely ridiculous but the truth of the matter was that he needed him. His conversational skills were better when it came to negotiating with the Counts.

"Count Bergliez and Count Hevring will arrive shortly and you have a job to fulfill. Take a moment to cool off and head to the meeting room. Do I make myself clear?"

“Crystal.  It is a pity that the Prime Minister need not obey your commands,  however.  In fact,  I have decided to retire early tonight.  Do give the counts my well-wishes.”  With an easy,  nigh lackadaisical motion,  Ferdinand pulls his heavy woolen coat from its rack and slips it over his shoulders.  He runs a hand under the back of his hair to guide out the long strands tucked beneath the coat’s collar,  then laces up the buttons one-by-one.

He even tugs on his gloves for good measure,  making a slow show of his efforts,  with eyes tacked on Hubert.  Stubborn,  the two of them.  Ferdinand is halfway out the door when he pivots back,  chin thrown over his shoulder to toss back one last chance.  “So this is  good night,  Hubert.  Unless you have something more constructive to say to me ?”

Prime Minister though he may be,  Ferdinand still permits Hubert crawl under his skin on occasion.  At least now he possesses some measure of  leverage, given his title and duties.  His arms fold one atop the other,  and he fixes Hubert with a stern,  stubborn glare.  How much it feels like their youth in this moment !
