MONDAY, JULY 31, 2017 Someone’s suspicious behavior can precipitate a volatile #interaction that’s fueled by jealous feelings. Nevertheless, uncomfortable emotions may remain unexpressed as desirous Venus invisibly slips into cautious Cancer. The Crab’s hard outer shell encourages us to protect ourselves rather than exposing a #soft #spot in our armor. Thankfully, we can consciously create safe space where fear is unnecessary and vulnerability leads to #intimacy. #mushrooms #greengrass #sauce #vegan #thedayofthelocust #lawnsprinklers (at Los Angeles, California)
Jeremy: "I've been on a LA kick lately. Before this, I read Eve's Hollywood by Eve Babitz who said this is the worst book about LA ever written. In her opinion the author paints too grim a picture, but I kind of like that. Babitz' book was very airy and all about the beauty of LA – like the sunshine and the food. This book is about a struggling actress who can't find work. I'm a filmmaker and am considering moving to LA. Right now I'm getting my fix through fiction." @jeremyrfink reading #TheDayOfTheLocust by #Nathanael West / @theubc for #subwaybookreview #newyork 🗽 (at G Train)
✳️ • • "Only those who still have hope can benefit from tears. When they finish, they feel better. But to those without hope, whose anguish is basic and permanent, no good comes from crying. Nothing changes for them. They usually know this, but still can’t help crying." - #TheDayOfTheLocust by #NathanaelWest • • #Review: West has incredible writing that perfectly describes hopelessness and depression. They story is set in the 1930's known as the Hollywood depression era where people flock to California to live the dream and be famous and happy. Unfortunately, not all have their luck. His characters are flawed and egotistic and delusional and desperate - which makes you want to hate the story but no, you love it more. Because you see a mirror of what the "Hollywood" really is behind the glitz and glamour. The introduction tells us that the author was a friend of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Trivia: They say that he was killed in a car accident while rushing to F. Scott's funeral. And that made me extremely sad. #Rating: 🌟🌟🌟.5 / 5 #bookreviewbyabeer • • Again, don't forget to check @roadsgroup for more designs! 💕
Their boredom becomes more and more terrible. They realize that they’ve been tricked and burn with resentment. Every day of their lives they read the newspapers and went to the movies. Both fed them on lynchings, murder, sex crimes, explosions, wrecks, love nests, fires, miracles, revolutions, war. This daily diet made sophisticates of them. The sun is a joke. Oranges can’t titillate their jaded palates. Nothing can ever be violent enough to make taut their slack minds and bodies. They have been cheated and betrayed. They have slaved and saved for nothing.
Just finished watching 'The Day of the Locust' and I am totally sick to my stomach. That film was completely horrifying and the last twenty or so minutes were difficult to watch. I definitely suggest it to anyone who likes any old Hollywood themed movies. It explores the dark side of Hollywood in the 1930's.
A Sargasso Sea of the imagination....
