Marcelinho lived on the far edge of Shihou, where the city lights faded into empty roads, and the air always smelled like oil and rain. The auto shop was both his home and his shelter, run by his uncle Keith and his adoptive brother Kameron, the only people who never asked where he really came from. By day, Marcelinho fixed engines, rode his motorcycle through the long highways, and sang loud enough to drown out his thoughts. By night, when monsters crept into the city, and fear followed them, the oni monkey inside him stirred. He hid it carefully—because in a world that hated monsters, he chose to be one who saved lives instead of destroying them.
