Working on a redesign of Crillix and Nolia's future child, Prince Aricid. oughhh he's so adorable. I drew this back in October 2024(?) and edited it just now to work on an update of the design. Changes to Aricid Crow's design:
The arm & body plates (Weaver trait) are now formed by Recast extrusions.
Facial features: Now has the face plates of a Whisp visible on the mouth, and also the ears are slightly elongated. Top of the face/skull are typical for a Weaver.
Because his father is undead and his mother is a Weaver, both of which are demon types with high recast levels, and "being undead" is not something that can be passed on to a child, I decided he would instead be a Weaver with traits of a Whisp. Technically, Whisps are demons with a medical condition that alters the body. Thus, Aricid is the first known person to be a Weaver Whisp. He is not a full Whisp, which is why he has hair, many visible Weaver features (including the obvious spider body), wings & horns inherited from his father, and of course his eight eyes.
I am considering covering/changing the fur on his legs to hardened Recast as well, but unsure. we'll see. i need to go to bed first lol.
Aricid is multiply disabled. He cannot properly fly due to wings that are not grown strong enough to carry a Weaver body. He also experiences mild chronic pain as a result of being a Whisp, which again is a fantasy medical condition. As he grows up, he would likely grow more Recast extrusions, probably starting along his arms and face plates, possibly also on his legs. His pain would get worse over time, if he lived long enough to experience this.
Thanks for reading! This character is not really relevant yet because, my focus is oftentimes on the time frame of the first book, when he is not yet born (as Crillix and Nolia don't get married and have a kid for a while) but eventually he becomes more important :)

Here's a random Crillix Crow art & writing excerpt post!!
I wanted to share this artwork from a while ago. It's just so very cozy and sweet.
The above picture might be one of my favorite drawings of him. He looks so relaxed.
Here are some more, I don't think I've posted them yet, even though they're old. and have a moodboard for the vibes.
In order, original illustration dates: August 2025, October 2024, July 2024, & moodboard of miscellaneous illustrations and pinterest pictures
And as a treat, here are various written excerpts related to this big ol sweetie. Goodness, I love my characters!
“We got one!” Crillix beams, holding up my shovel triumphantly.
I hold back a cough, “I smell that... Seems rather... decayed,” I choke out as I stalk towards the pair, finding a partially uncovered body beneath them. It is grimy and covered in clumps of dirt with bugs crawling everywhere, “Hm. So you have.”
-Chapter one
They both grinned, and Crillix knew he’d won. For a moment it felt as though this was a close friend and not someone who arrested his friends in the woods.
-Chapter three
Crillix unfolded his inky black wings. “Then let’s hope they can’t see well in the dark.” He held his wings above Nolia and Hale, trying to cover them both. Genius. Nolia tried her best to huddle under his wing completely, the soft feathers brushing against her shoulders. The three tried to silence their breathing, looking at each other with horror in their eyes. Nolia should have stopped them. She shouldn’t have brought them here; she knew it wouldn’t end well.
-Chapter six
His hands were strange, almost appearing to give off a faint violet glow. The skeletal form of bones were visible beneath his tough hands, though oddly silk-smooth, seeming to glow through them faintly. She took his hand anyway and helped to pull herself to her feet.
-Chapter six
:)
And finally, some cute little fun facts as a reward for sticking around!
Crillix is pretty clumsy and awkward. He bumps things with his wings all the time, forgets how big his horns are, and says rather charmingly-awkward things all the time.
One of his greatest attributes is his curiosity. He has this natural desire to want to learn everything about a world he has little memory of. Every new person and environment is greeted with an open mind.
He loves to take in details. He's the kind of guy who notices everything, but sometimes he's so caught up in appreciating the little things, that he misses the obvious stuff. He finds so much beauty in the world around him.

new OC art... my dearest favorite submissive man Atlas. he is part of the Sky Kingdom Royal Court and fulfills a handful of miscellaneous roles but most relevant here, he is King Alaric's sub :) he is very very devoted to his king
I made some slight changes to her character design today :)
Excalda Zecestia (she/any), is one of two immortals living in Hadenia since its creation; they are caught somewhere between human and god, living and undead. She is the foil to Hale in my eyes, and where Hale is as close to "demon" as an immortal can get, Excalda is as close to "human" as one can get. Where Hale was once a god, Excalda was once a human. Hale is often very active; Excalda will sit stagnant for long periods of time. They've known each other since the birth of the empire itself, though neither are recorded in history as founders of Hadenia. They were both present, compelling forces, but neither were the one to get the fame and go down in history as the namesake of the family of the emperor/empress (the Haydens).
Excalda was there when Hadenia became an empire---she was there before that, when there was only the Sun Kingdom, and even before that when there was no kingdoms. She has been here all along, alone, almost forgotten in the desert, blind but seeing all that has been left behind and glimpses of what could be, protecting those who choose to join her.
More art & lore/infodumping below the cut! :)
nobody cares but here's an evolution of her character design & drawings!
also, i think this is proof that drawing consistently WILL improve your art & design skills.
between 2021-2022 i improved a lot despite having little to no formal drawing instruction in that time. after that i got serious about art which made the improvement even better but still. point stands.
Infodump time! Serious wall of text below.
Excalda is the leader of a small(ish) society referred to as The Lonely
Her "palace", technically a large temple, is located in a village in the southern part of Hadenia, more or less. This area is located where the Sky and Sun kingdoms meet.
(Which reminds me, sometime I need to once again remake the map... I'm keeping the features and locations the same, it just needs an aesthetic revamp and some more detail on terrain and biomes)
The Lonely are characterized by people whose religious practice involves a sacrifice of the physical sense of vision (to varying degrees of permanence) as an act of devotion to their patron god(s).
The current day Imperial Prophet of Hadenia, Lunoston Daye, is actually of Lone descent. He does not practice Lone religion, as he grew up in Goldera City and practices the religious practices common to that area.
Excalda herself cannot see, but her intuition and senses and immediate foresight are so sharpened. She has a deep connection to the gods; they speak to her, send her visions and messages, and honestly keep her company sometimes
This is another way she is a foil to Hale (whose relationship to the gods is that of an excommunicated family member).
Excalda reveres all of the gods very much and takes their respect VERY seriously. She embodies traits of them all, but her more notable abilities are most clearly connected to Violet, the god of magic and souls. Her entire land is saturated with its presence.
So, I suppose you could say her patron god is Violet --- though nobody really knows that. I'm giving you all an insider scoop!
Also it just occured to me that Star helped create Violet oh that's weird to think about. tho i suppose in a way "Star" also "created" Excalda if you think about it...
Anyway... Though she keeps this information well-contained (as she is very well aware of the Sun Kingdom's current social stances on Recast/demons), she has a deep connection to Recast as well--more on that later, but for those unfamiliar that is the purpley-blue-shadowy stuff. You commonly see it on undead demons whose bodies have been healed after awful injuries, where glowing bones peek through.
Excalda is both blessed and cursed by her connection to Hale and Hale's resurrections; she receives (in the form of visions, fleeting memories, and auditory hallucinations) the lost memories of those who are resurrected (to become undead). What they forget, she remembers.
This applies to all dead souls, actually. When a person dies and their soul goes to the cloud realm, sometimes they forget things. Not much, they retain much of what is important to who they are. But anything the soul does not need, goes to her. The transfer of energy that occurs when a soul travels in or out of bodies is what causes this.
The Lonely are technically only loosely considered part of the Sun Kingdom. Some consider them a separate part of the empire.
Notes on terminology: As a whole social group, they are the Lonely. A person who is of the Lonely is called a Lone, or Lone, depending on who you ask (“She is a Lone, he is of Lone descent, they are Lone"). Cultural things are referred to as “Lonlian” (“That Lonlian melon dish, the Lonlian architecture”). The location itself is also Lone. <- if any of this contradicts itself just use vibes on which version to use. I am not a genius I just have words & worldbuilding autism
^ I'm going to try to start adding "notes on terminology" when posting about TDC because theres so much goddamn worldbuilding and I forget that yall dont know these things. sometimes i forget even.
OKAY i would LOVE to keep infodumping but that is a WALL of text and I want to be done. feel free to ask questions in the notes of course!! also sorry if this was confusing, I was jumping around while typing (and also having other conversations).
