I made some slight changes to her character design today :)
Excalda Zecestia (she/any), is one of two immortals living in Hadenia since its creation; they are caught somewhere between human and god, living and undead. She is the foil to Hale in my eyes, and where Hale is as close to "demon" as an immortal can get, Excalda is as close to "human" as one can get. Where Hale was once a god, Excalda was once a human. Hale is often very active; Excalda will sit stagnant for long periods of time. They've known each other since the birth of the empire itself, though neither are recorded in history as founders of Hadenia. They were both present, compelling forces, but neither were the one to get the fame and go down in history as the namesake of the family of the emperor/empress (the Haydens).
Excalda was there when Hadenia became an empire---she was there before that, when there was only the Sun Kingdom, and even before that when there was no kingdoms. She has been here all along, alone, almost forgotten in the desert, blind but seeing all that has been left behind and glimpses of what could be, protecting those who choose to join her.
More art & lore/infodumping below the cut! :)
nobody cares but here's an evolution of her character design & drawings!
also, i think this is proof that drawing consistently WILL improve your art & design skills.
between 2021-2022 i improved a lot despite having little to no formal drawing instruction in that time. after that i got serious about art which made the improvement even better but still. point stands.
Infodump time! Serious wall of text below.
Excalda is the leader of a small(ish) society referred to as The Lonely
Her "palace", technically a large temple, is located in a village in the southern part of Hadenia, more or less. This area is located where the Sky and Sun kingdoms meet.
(Which reminds me, sometime I need to once again remake the map... I'm keeping the features and locations the same, it just needs an aesthetic revamp and some more detail on terrain and biomes)
The Lonely are characterized by people whose religious practice involves a sacrifice of the physical sense of vision (to varying degrees of permanence) as an act of devotion to their patron god(s).
The current day Imperial Prophet of Hadenia, Lunoston Daye, is actually of Lone descent. He does not practice Lone religion, as he grew up in Goldera City and practices the religious practices common to that area.
Excalda herself cannot see, but her intuition and senses and immediate foresight are so sharpened. She has a deep connection to the gods; they speak to her, send her visions and messages, and honestly keep her company sometimes
This is another way she is a foil to Hale (whose relationship to the gods is that of an excommunicated family member).
Excalda reveres all of the gods very much and takes their respect VERY seriously. She embodies traits of them all, but her more notable abilities are most clearly connected to Violet, the god of magic and souls. Her entire land is saturated with its presence.
So, I suppose you could say her patron god is Violet --- though nobody really knows that. I'm giving you all an insider scoop!
Also it just occured to me that Star helped create Violet oh that's weird to think about. tho i suppose in a way "Star" also "created" Excalda if you think about it...
Anyway... Though she keeps this information well-contained (as she is very well aware of the Sun Kingdom's current social stances on Recast/demons), she has a deep connection to Recast as well--more on that later, but for those unfamiliar that is the purpley-blue-shadowy stuff. You commonly see it on undead demons whose bodies have been healed after awful injuries, where glowing bones peek through.
Excalda is both blessed and cursed by her connection to Hale and Hale's resurrections; she receives (in the form of visions, fleeting memories, and auditory hallucinations) the lost memories of those who are resurrected (to become undead). What they forget, she remembers.
This applies to all dead souls, actually. When a person dies and their soul goes to the cloud realm, sometimes they forget things. Not much, they retain much of what is important to who they are. But anything the soul does not need, goes to her. The transfer of energy that occurs when a soul travels in or out of bodies is what causes this.
The Lonely are technically only loosely considered part of the Sun Kingdom. Some consider them a separate part of the empire.
Notes on terminology: As a whole social group, they are the Lonely. A person who is of the Lonely is called a Lone, or Lone, depending on who you ask (“She is a Lone, he is of Lone descent, they are Lone"). Cultural things are referred to as “Lonlian” (“That Lonlian melon dish, the Lonlian architecture”). The location itself is also Lone. <- if any of this contradicts itself just use vibes on which version to use. I am not a genius I just have words & worldbuilding autism
^ I'm going to try to start adding "notes on terminology" when posting about TDC because theres so much goddamn worldbuilding and I forget that yall dont know these things. sometimes i forget even.
OKAY i would LOVE to keep infodumping but that is a WALL of text and I want to be done. feel free to ask questions in the notes of course!! also sorry if this was confusing, I was jumping around while typing (and also having other conversations).

ykw i feel like posting more songs. its my blog i can be as annoying as i want
The song Rituals and Ressurections by The Blake Robinson Synthetic Orchestra.
to me this is my "hot malice OC" as some mutuals have said, Low. this is him and his freakish obsessions with ganondorf i.e. the corpse beneath the castle. undead4undead obsession lowkey
Random song post. Was listening to my playlist and had fandom thoughts.
To me this song is so Ganondorf and by extension also Astor (particularly in the way the song seems to describe someone invoking a demonic force to destroy the [already-awful?] world, which is literally astors situation).
anyway i am. Especially thinking about Calamity Ganon and the corpse of Ganondorf beneath Hyrule Castle. Please see my vision its been plaguing me
Check out the opening lyrics, which begins around a minute and a half into the song:
Behind the veil of silver scars
There is a special-inverted star
He's a greasy beast
Heaving in a field of sticky black mud
I'm down here naked
There's a hole in my chest
Both my arms are broken
Pointing east and west
Your life pours into my mouth
My light pours out of my mouth
-The Seer Returns (Swans)
tbh i want to do a video edit thing with that bit of the song but that requires actually doing it so please see the vision
I feel like some people need to relearn Genre Expectations... "Man, this tragedy sucks!!! Why didn't they just do XYZ, then everything could have ended happily!!" well, then it wouldn't be a tragedy, would it. "Man, this lighthearted teen romcom is terrible, it's so sappy and unrealistic!!" Well, yeah. If it had been gritty and dark, it wouldn't have been a lighthearted romcom, would it. Is the writing actually bad or are you just trying to order a milkshake from a Home Depot
Charismatic, extroverted sibling who thinks this is just normal banter and
Quieter sibling who's been trying to carve her out her own place and *still* can't get out of his shadow. Sibling who's on the edge of destroying everything just to make her name her own.
