      another summer, another lookout. jim is used to it by now. he actually kind of likes the solitude. during the year, he’s busy. always moving, always under obligation to do something. but summer is different. in the summer, he moves at his own pace, & he moves with nature.

      being on firewatch isn’t exactly exciting work, but it is important. without him & his team, wildfires could spread quickly & harm innocent people. besides, being out in nature for a few months does WONDERS for his mental health.

      anyway, today, the NEWBIE arrives. a guy by the name of leonard mccoy. he wonders what he’ll be like. he sits & waits at the window, as always, a crossword puzzle in his lap as his feet are propped up on the corner of his desk. he’s got his binoculars out & ready so that he can radio the newbie’s tower once he arrived.
