im consternated im losing my mind every time i research something for the book it turns into a two-hour wikipedia trawl that leads to me learning something outraging about my country . french creek where i live which runs through the town where i work was called BEEF RIVER by the french bc . because. im losing my mind people they called it that because they saw all these animals that looked to them like beef cattle IT WAS BISON WE HAD BISON THREE HUNDRED YEARS AGO IN VENANGO AREA i never knew that! id always thought of them as exclusively a thing that was from further west. but apparently they were all the way this far east just like cougar and elk and those are mostly in the west now too except for areas where folks are trying to reintroduce species. like elk are coming back in PA in the eastern areas but i had no idea we had bison. i mean you see bison around here on livestock farms but i didnt know they were JUST OUT THERE ROAMING
