You Got Me Girl - Thee Milkshakes

Fuzz, swagger, repeat
Thee Milkshakes keep it gloriously simple: gritty guitars, infectious hooks, and endless charm.

The Milkshakes - Black Sails (In The Moonlight) (1982)
As described on the back cover - "a rollicking beat for this vaguely reminiscent number." Not to be confused with Red Sails in the Sunset.

POP RIVETS - (I'm So) Happy Tonight
"It's You" - Mickey & The Milkshakes (1982)
As much as I enjoy any of garage punk guru Billy Childish's bands, Mickey Hampshire and his hoarse vocals, resembling that of the late Joe Strummer in so many ways, was the reason I love Thee Milkshakes.
“...For all of the band's retro posturing and locked-in-time songwriting, Hampshire was a fantastic, expressive rock & roll singer, underrated to this day. He rocked hard but also wrote desperate, mid-tempo ballads that contrasted with Childish's lo-fi stomping and Link Wray idolatry...
...Hampshire's singing—his howling, really—always felt sincere to me, well past derivative into emotionally sound (...) He sang with a half-grin. And he was a great screamer, too (...) He always sounded drunk...”

Can't Seem To Love That Girl - Thee Milkshakes
1984
Rough garage pop charm
A perfect example of Billy Childish’s approach to songwriting: short, melodic, jangly, and tense.
I'm Out of Control - Thee Milkshakes
1984
A beautiful kind of mess.
Thee Milkshakes channel all their scrappy brilliance into “I’m Out of Control,” a track that feels both reckless and completely alive.
