It pains me to say I first heard this song on Girls. That show is like a terrible, horrifying car wreck that I can’t peel my eyes away from… and keep going back to each week. I don’t find pleasure in their suffering, but I am fascinated with how they go about it. This song is similar in that I don’t think the lyrics are profound, I don’t find pleasure in the story they are telling as much as I enjoy the tone they express it.

This sound is kinda getting overdone. Airy guitars and gentle synths, something that could have easily been on the Walter Mitty soundtrack . What I like about this song is that it takes this feel-good sound and brings a much more expansive lyrical depth to it. It takes the lightness of the music and pushes it against the sadness of the words. Reversed-charged magnets and the invisible space between.
