My friend, mentor, and coffee goddess left this plane today. The Queen of the World Famous Elvis Room in Portsmouth, NH. I'm heartbroken but merely a drop in the ocean of the people who were profoundly moved by her life. I played my first original song at The Elvis Room. All of my first writings are still in those books. I produced my first plays there. I also drank a shit-ton of coffee. She totally knew what she was doing, they all did. Barbara, Mike, and Dawn. It was the center of the universe and we were all just spinning, caught in the orbit they created. Then it was gone. Just like that. Like life, I suppose. One moment we are kings of the block and the next there is a "for lease" sign slapped on the window. But the times, man. They shape who we are and never go away. Even in death. I sit here writing this on my phone and am immediately brought back to sitting at the counter, sipping the best cheap coffee in the world with the strangest, smartest, hippest, bestest, angsty-est people. I don't think the impact Dawn Marie left will ever fully be known. What I do know is I would not be the artist or human I am today without her or the Elvis Room. Thank you, Dawn.
