A record I thought I would never see in my lifetime, but thanks to @craigmorerrecords I got my chance to hold and listen to Caetano Veloso’s second solo record circa 1969. It is like his first, self-titled but also known as the “white album.” It was recorded simply with Gilberto Gil on guitar while Caetano was being confined by the military dictatorship in Salvador Brazil with sympathetic overdubs added latter. This music is characteristic of the artistic rebellion against authoritarianism. It has no boundaries with a mishmash of false starts, psychedelia, Bossa nova, evocative pop, fado. My favorite song “the empty boat” has that zen quality of being plugged directly into your musical consciousnesses, music of few words that prompts an expansion of thought like Jobim’s “Waters of March.” #antiauthoritarianism #brazil #popmusic #pop #rocknroll #caetanoveloso #caetano #antoniocarlosjobim #jobim #watersofmarch #theemptyboat #brazilianmusic #tropicalismo #fado #bossanova (at Salvador, Bahia, Brazil)
