Dear AdLanders
A Personal Statement From Alexander Patterson
AdLand is experiencing a renaissance.
An industry that’s been slowly ailing – even after the advent of digital, although not because of it – is now finally coming full circle.
The always-on consumer, once again, is dictating how and where they’ll spend their money.
Understanding, like opinions, are varied on where social media is taking us, but everyone agrees the world will never be the same.
Fundamentally, every ad agency, technology company or start-up must ask where they fit into the emerging model, and to what degree?
Personally, I am the most happy I have been in years looking at the strategy behind social media and the relevant cultural currency required by every shareable. And of course creating the ideas.
Everything we have learned in so-called traditional media is still valid. It’s just that the context has changed. Just as the cut of a diamond will always be its most important element, creativity tempered with logic is still the single most important agency differentiator.
I’ve been doing this for awhile, but I’m still excited everyday by brands, businesses and consumers.
More than ever, I believe the environment and attitude of the shop is its most important element.
This isn't a self-promotion. It's a statement of intent. And just as every creative should know where he's going, so must each agency.
A great creative director once said: ‘You’ve got to know why you’re here.’ So do you?
Best regards,
Alexander Patterson
