I have my own little headcannon that eventually after the war ends and Bakoda goes back to the SWT they get married at some point. Like maybe a year or two after the series end, Sokka and Katara mainly plan it cus they love them. So Sokka is helping set up and helping Hakoda and Katara is with Bato. They both meet up outside the igloos and Sokka’s like “things are going pretty well”. Then Katara swoops in with a “Bato passed out”. They do manage to wake the poor man up and Bakoda gets married!
That's so cute !!! And I definitely think Sokka and Katara's involvement in planning the ceremony would mean the absolute world to Hakoda. Like, he wants his kids to love Bato so much but he also wants them to know that he isn't trying to replace Kya. They get it completely. And above all else, they want him to be happy. So they do their shit with planning and yeah the night of the ceremony, when Bato and Hakoda finally get to see each other for the first time in two weeks, Bato is quite literally blown away because holy shit I'm going to marry him. We're going to get fucking married. And it's so funny (and concerning as well of course) but he awakes and marries Hakoda and Hakoda literally never lets him forget that moment.
