#RoadToOscars - “The Favorite” Onestly it wasn’t good to watch to me. I place more value on the plot and the characters. Too many manipulations (not even thrilling) and not enough heart for me. But the soundtrack is perfect, the photography is beautiful and the cast is amazing. And I absolutely love Emma Stone’s facial expressions. Also, I’m stumped by some of Sarah’s sentences in the end (I don’t think at all she was in love!)

My “review” for The Favorite

I put review in quotations, simply because I doubt this will be a review but more of a reaction to the movie.

Me and a good friend of mine went to go and see the movie earlier and were a bit shocked (but in a good way) to the movie and how surprised we were by how it played with our emotions. When we were looking to see The Favorite, we were expecting a historical-comedy. Something feel-good, but this was just about the complete opposite.

While it did have a lot of fantastic dry humor which my friend and I enjoyed, there was a heavier plot that changed and the dynamics that played between the three main women was a great change of pace.

Now,

I was surprised by the huge lgbt representation in this movie. Something that neither of us were suspecting in the slightest, this was a fantastic addition to the story that we rarely see. This played a huge part into the love triangle between Anna, Sarah and Abigail. My friend and I are both very gay you see, so this LGBT representation was fantastic, haha.

The Favorite was a particularly long film, which isn’t something I personally have a problem with. But while it was long it did take quite a while for the story to gain momentum and for the story to start progressing, and when it did, it truly did. While I understand that the majority of the beginning it was laying out the story and characters you would see along the movie.

I thought that Anna was a fantastic character, her development. The progression of her disabilities during the film. Both her mental illness and psychical limitations were something that is rarely shown in movies and especially historical films. This I applaud them for.

Let me just make this clear, this movie was an absolute roller-coaster that I enjoyed almost every moment of. Between almost shedding tears at moments, and laughing others. There is a lot of tension throughout this movie that made the little jokes pay off so well. I am planning to purchase this movie when it releases. Even though I was so unsure of the ending.

Does anyone understand the ending? Can someone give me a clue? It feels like I am trying to decode some kind of puzzle to understand the ending to this movie.

Otherwise I give The Favorite a 8/10.

-Pacing was a bit off, especially in the beginning but it picked up luckily.

-Story and character building was fantastic.

-Some of the scenes lasted way too long and went from uncomfortable to awkward.

-Character and set design was amazing, and every scene was beautiful. (even the weird orange scene which will haunt my nightmares.)

-I want to give Queen Anna a hug so badly.
