Book Review #1- The Final 6 by Alexandra Monir
I got my hands on this book by accident. I was in the library, frustrated about not finding anything that seemed good, and on my way out, this stunning book cover caught my attention. Case in point:
This book is one of the best books I have ever read, and I will always love it. It weaves together competition, high stakes, and love in a perfectly blended story that I cannot get enough of. The climax and final twist of the story hit me like a truck, and as I sat there in disbelief, I knew that this book belonged on my bookshelf, front and center. The Final 6 is set in a future Earth in which climate change has created disaster. The oceans are raging, countries are flooding, and massive earthquakes devastate the population. The book is split into two POV’s, Leo and Naomi. Leo is a young Italian teenager who lost his whole family in the floods, he makes a living by scavenging and selling things he finds underwater. Naomi is an Iranian-American genius who has a brother with a heart condition; she has spent her life trying to find innovative ways to try to save him, but with the earth seemingly dying, funding must go elsewhere. The space agencies of the world have all come together to put together a team of the brightest, most promising teenagers to colonize Jupiter’s moon, Europa. Leo and Naomi both get chosen for the competition to decide who goes, and they have an instant connection. Their story is one of the best love stories I have read, and it brings so much emotion to the climax and cliffhanger. However, something else I like about the book is that it isn’t focused on the love side of the story, it is centered around the competition and the teenagers themselves, fighting for the chance to survive. Naomi begins to suspect that the leaders of NASA are hiding something sinister, and she vows to find out what it is. That’s where I’ll leave this summary, because this book is so good, you need to read it for yourself. In all, this book is a whirlwind of emotions, both good and bad, and it is a must-read if you love sci-fi and dystopian novels. I 10/10 recommend this and I really hope you guys give it a try.
P.S. The second book just came out and it is every bit as good as the first <3
P.P.S It’s called The Life Below if you want to check it out
Are you a science fiction reader? . I’m so excited to be helping out with this pop tour with @booksparks for The Life Below. This is the sequel to @alexandramonir ‘s The Final Six, and releases from @epicreads On February 18th. . ALSO if you click the link in my bio it will take you to an amazing preorder offer! . Summary: As Naomi lifts off into space and away from a rapidly deteriorating Earth, she watches the world fade away, and along with it Leo, a Final Six contestant she grew close to during training. Leaving Earth behind is hard, but what’s ahead, on Europa, could be worse. The International Space Training Camp continues to hide the truth about what happened to the last group of astronauts who attempted a similar colonization but failed mysteriously. With one shot—at this mission and to Europa—Naomi is determined to find out if there is alien life on Europa before she and her crew get there. Leo, back on Earth, has been working with renegade scientist Dr. Greta Wagner, who promises to fly him to space where he can essentially latch on to Naomi’s ship. And if Wagner’s hypothesis is right, it isn’t a possibility of coming in contact with extraterrestrial life on Europa—it’s a definite. With Naomi unaware of what awaits, it’s up to Leo to find and warn her and the others. With all the pieces of their journey finally clicking into place, everything else starts to fall apart. A storm threatens to interfere with Leo’s takeoff, a deadly entity makes itself known to the Final Six, and the questions the ISTC has been avoiding about the previous failed mission get answered in the worst way possible. If the dream was to establish a habitable domain on Europa… the Final Six are about to enter a nightmare. . . . #booksparks #bookshark #partner #thefinalsix #thelifebelow #sciencefiction #bohobedroom #rugsofinstagram #beddingsets #hearthandhandwithmagnolia #calm_collected #slowlivingforlife #ofquietmoments #slowandsimpledays #thedarlingmovement #seekthesimplicity #wondermore #idratherbereading #cozyvibes #bibliophile #bookaesthetic #makemoments #dowhatmakesyouhappy #prettythings #livethelittlethings #bibliofeature #totalbooknerd #lovelymoments #simpledecor #boholivi (at Memphis, Tennessee) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8gxv1jne-P/?igshid=1c2z2dvay46pl
