SHE’S SO UNUSUAL, no. 6. Laura Nyro, The First Songs. Don’t know why I knew *nothing* of Laura Nyro before @mrwordsworthesq wrote about her. But that’s what I knew. Nothin’. These sound like songs I should know from radios and other people’s mix tapes or whatever, very Motown/sixties AM pop-ish. The words are all a little sad. Edgy. But performed as if the songs will be coming out the speakers at Holiday World as you drift along in an inner tube, sandwiched between Supremes and some song backed by the Wrecking Crew. I should check.
