Thinking of your Clara meta, you may find Marina and the Diamonds interesting. Rarely fits the brief of calm and soothing (maybe Solitaire, Happy, Obsessions, et al.) but there’s an awareness and meaning in her music you might enjoy.
I do wonder about the meta connection here, but yeah, I think it’s a bit too upbeat pop music for what I’m looking for here... generally though, she’s long been on a vague list of people I should probably give more than just a quick listen to :).

One band I’d really recommend giving a go is The National. Some of the songs off their last two albums High Violet and Trouble Will Find Me have huge emotional power, yet often done with great subtlety.

The soundtrack to Jane Eyre by Dario Marianelli may be something you might like? It’s melancholic, but also…soft.
Thank you!

Nothing calms me like Agnes Obel’s ‘Under Giant Trees’
Oh, I know Agnes Obel, but I’ve only listened to her Philharmonics album. I’m going to check out her newer stuff! (Which is apparently three years old...)
(I’ve asked people to be so kind and recommend (calming) music to me.)
