Nadja is just as eager as I am to read A Fool in Time, a very thoughtful gift from its author Mike Girard, frontman for The Fools, with whom I recently had a nice and rather unexpected chat about our favorite Scotches. Thank you, sir! FYI, Mike's first book, Psycho Chicken & Other Foolish Tales, is a must-read for anyone who grew up listening to Boston's classic rock radio scene like I did. Fitting this in under the wire: a bunch of records by The Fools. Best known for their dopey Talking Heads parody, “Psycho Chicken” (“Bock bock ba bock bock, ba bock bock bock bock”), they were actually a pretty decent rock band that had a bad habit of writing novelty songs. Their cover of the Sixties mainstay “Doo Wah Diddy” was a minor MTV hit and then that was about it for them. Good stuff when you’re in the mood for it though—and how cool to have a promo-only live album recorded ON April Fool’s Day?!

It’s April Fools Day so it’s time to break out some albums by The Fools! They were an early-80s rock band that was a cross between Weird Al Yankovic and Blotto with a dash of Bon Jovi thrown in. They’re best known for the rocked out Talking Heads parody, “Psycho Chicken,” which hasn’t aged well, but on album, they’re not bad, mainly because you can tell they could really play. Get foolish today—we all need a break from the state of the world.
