231215 blacklight set at aaes gala (bangkok, thailand)
blacklight's set at the gala was kept short, at a grand total of four songs (one song from each album they've released + an extra track from their most recent). as much as ash loves performing with his band, he didn't really want to have to stay at the gala much longer than absolutely necessary just to perform in front of a bunch of celebrity elites.
naturally, due to the setting, there were no extravagant stage effects or dramatic remixes of songs. personally, that's fine with ash since he's not all that interested in putting that kind of effort in for a captive audience who didn't choose to watch them perform and at least half of whom probably don't really care about what's going on on stage at all.
the band as a whole has been performing a lot this year as they work on their next album, though, so they're taking most major performance opportunities offered to them.

231212 grey surprise bar show (bangkok, thailand)
because he recently ended a tour, there weren't any plans for ash to hold another concert in the super near future. he's working on his next solo album and a new album with blacklight and frankly needs some time to himself for his own sanity, so he's been out of performing for the past three or so months. that said, he loves performing. he gets restless when he goes too long without being able to perform in front of a crowd, and the way he learned to lean on performing as something of a coping mechanism during his recent tour has only made that restlessness worse now.
when he got the invite to the gala, he got the idea to hold an intimate concert during the week he was in town. he didn't want anything the scale of his tour concerts or anything he had to do a ton of rehearsals for. he's always liked more laidback shows, like what blacklight has done at times, but he's never really gotten to do since he re-started his solo career.
the show and location was announced only a few hours before it took place. because it took place in a small bar, it was a 20+ show with a capacity of a little under 100 people. while ash prepared a loose setlist of songs to guide him along, a lot of the show was based on vibes for what he'd play next, as well as requests from the audience. (fans in the audience didn't seem to care as much about vibes, which is how he ended up going from put my hands on you to instagram)
a lot of the requests were songs he hasn't played in a while like evergrey and and you? (outro), which he probably should have expected. the requests also resulted in his first ever live performance of a song from his short film teen troubles, "john fry".
he debuted a song he's planning to put on his next album. he only played part of it and it will go through some lyric changes before it gets released (it's more like this version of bad cold)
he probably cried at some point. idk i feel like that the set got heavy in the second half he could not keep up the energy of the first few songs. i think it's the fan who requested instagram's fault.
he had a really good time even if his headspace during the week of the gala wasn't the best. he missed the smaller, really intimate shows he hasn't gotten to play since before blacklight officially debuted. it made him want to do a series of similar small, surprise shows, though he knows the logistics of that make it a bit unlikely he'll be able to.
he would have gone on for a lot longer but the show was only set to be for around fifty minutes so he had to honor that by only going twenty minutes over.

it's hard not to have a few drinks when heading to the bar is about the only excuse he has not to talk to anyone. despite his attempts to drink less in the aftermath of his tour (most of which had not been spent sober), he gives into the comfortable force of habit of clinging to the bar like a lifeline once everyone is set free from their seats to mingle. he's pried from it only for blacklight's short set, and then he grabs a couple of farewell shots before he slips out the back.
it's just too much. the noise, the crowd, the people. he wishes it was one of those nights he felt more electric, like he could do anything and charm anyone, but even getting up on stage with the band isn't enough to keep the anxious crawling of his skin at bay. he knows being here is a big deal for him, for blacklight, and he holds too much responsibility for their career now to dismiss it all as easily as he had in his younger days. each time his eyes land on a certain familiar face they always seem to find their way to, the anxiety is joined with the kind of aching regret that sits heavy in his stomach.
by the time he returns to his hotel room, he doesn't even have the energy to deal with his manager or to return his outfit for the night safely to his stylist. he waves them both off, promising to get in touch with them first thing in the morning. he lays in bed, staring up at the ceiling, but sleep doesn't come. in the still silence of his room, he thinks he hears the door of the room next to his open and shut. he knows better than to seek comfort where he no longer deserves it.
so instead, he breaks open the bottle of champagne calvin klein had sent to his room as a thanks for attending their dinner. it's not so much liquid courage as liquid longing to speak to her again that finds him knocking on the door of his neighboring hotel room not long after, all the tension in his body concentrated into the grip he has on his bottle of champagne.
if his heart had the decency not to get the best of him at times like this, he'd turn tail and run before he was faced with answers to his what ifs. what if she doesn't answer? what if she does, only to slam the door in his face? what if she's spending her night with someone else?
he stays. he waits. his heart has never had much guilt for the fool it turns him into.

honestly this is just the natural progression of every red carpet outfit he's ever worn: all black with varying degrees of chest out and a lot of silver jewelry.
nonetheless, he shows up on red carpets so rarely that his fans will eat up whatever they are given! this and his mini-concert are really all they've gotten from him since his tour ended so they will discuss it like it's the biggest thing ever to happen until he makes his next biannual instance of showing his face in public

additional details: she will be primarily showcasing photos of herself and her co-star from the handmaiden, as well as a few behind the scenes photographs from the wailing, save me, and revenant. the items she’ll auction off are items she’s personally kept from her projects: hideko's gloves and parasol from the handmaiden, sangmi's cardigan from save me, and moo-myung's jacket from the wailing.
