Dangerous woman 🗡
Shay: "I'm surrounded by idiots."
“My money’s on Edward.” Evie said with a bemused expression.
“As if.” Connor retorted. “Jacob clearly has an upper hand with his youth.”
“Exactly. Edward has experience.”
“I’m surrounded by idiots.” Shay groaned. “Clearly, it’s Altaïr.”
Evie rose a brow. “He’s not even participating.”
Shay simply watched the backyard with a smile. The Assassins looked at one another, shruggled, and watched the fight.
“OK boys, fight fair.” Altaïr warned. “No weapons, no hair pulling, and no dirty tricks. Ready? Begin!”
Edward and Jacob, both shirtless, pranced around the perimeter of the make-shift boxing ring. It was really just a large square outlined by string, but who said Assassins didn’t have imagination?
“You’re going down, mate.” Jacob grinned.
“I’m your dreams, mate!” Edward retorted, and pounced. He went for Jacob’s left shoulder, which he defended valiantly, before switching the his right and landing an uppercut.
Jacob fell to the ground, but stuck out a leg as Edward attempted to pin him down. He kicked his sternum, lifting Edward, and pushing him back. Now given some room, Jacob jumped onto his feet and squared up once more. Edward rushed him, going for his side, but Jacob was prepared and tackled him. The two wrestled a bit, until Jacob squat down, wrapped his arms around Edward and lifted him. Then he flipped him onto his back.
With the breathe knocked out of him, Edward gasped. Jacob enjoyed his defeat, pinning the pirate down with his knees, and grinned down at him.
Edward head butt him.
Jacob released his hold and grabbed his now blooded nose. Blood trickled down his chin.
“What the hwell, wate? No dwirty twicks!”
“I’m a pirate, mate, what did you expect?” Edward grabbed him and twisted his arm. Jacob kicked back, hitting him in his manhood, and Edward winced. Jacob then wheeled around and kneed him in the stomach. The pirate fell, but kicked a foot out, clipping Jacob’s chin.
“Stop.” Altaïr said, but the boys kept on. The tricks became dirtier and the two more furious. “Stop.” Altaïr said in tone with a bit more authority, but nothing.
Jacob swung at Edward, who ducked and decked Altaïr in the face. The two kept fighting as everyone else just watched with wide eyes. Edward kicked at Jacob, who moved, and hit Altaïr by mistake. However, the Eagle of Masyaf was prepared and grabbed Edward’s boot as it made it’s way to his chest. He then twisted his leg, causing the pirate to fall face first on the grass. Without a break, he grabbed Jacob’s arm and flipped him, making him land on his back with a wheeze.
Both men groaned, bloody and beat.
“That’s 40 bucks.” Shay smirked, and Connor and Evie reached for their wallets.
Jacob: "Must you be so dramatic?" "You're an Assassin. Act like it."
“Five.”
“Three.”
“You’re an Assassin. Act like it.” Edward smirked.
“What? Bid higher than you because I’m an Assassin, mate?” Jacob rolled his eyes. “That’s stupid, and Assassins aren’t stupid.”
“Up until you joined, they weren’t.“
“Woooow.”
“I just meant that Assassins are brave.” Edward responded. “You would have to be brave to if you raised.”
“Don’t try to hustle a gangster, pirate.” Jacob scoffed. Arno approached them, watching the ring as they were.
“Who’s your money on?” He asked.
“Evie.”
“Connor.” Edward and Jacob exchanged glares, and Arno laughed.
“I’m staying out of this one.” He said.
“It’s not too late to put your money on my boy.” Edward grinned, he looked like a shark baring his teeth like that. Definately not the most trusting look. “I give Connor three moves before he decks Jacob’s sister.”
“My sister might be small, but she’s fast and smart. I give her five moves to finish his grandson.” Jacob retorted. “Connor might have size, but that’s his disadvantage. He’s too nice to let her lose, and he has pride to not let himself lose. It’s a lose lose either way, so he’ll pick the more nobel route. He’ll let her win.”
“But he’s also competitive, so it’s anyone’s game.” Arno added, “What does Shay think?”
“He’s keeping his thoughts out of this one.” Edward groaned.
“Shut it, they’re starting.” Jacob said, and they turned to watch the fight.
Evie stretched her arms out, Connor cracked his neck, and Altaïr looked between them.
“Play fair.” He warned, and withdrew his hand. “Begin!”
They rushed each other.
Jacob: "Must you be so dramatic?"
Evie growled as she spied Jacob laying his head on the table in the noisy pub. This was the fourth time this week she’d had to save him from himself, and she was tiring of it. She moved easily through the pub, and slammed his mug down by his head. He woke with a fright, and looked around in bewilderment.
“We’re leaving. Get up.” She grabbed him by the scruff of his neck, and dragged him out. Maybe he tried to fight her, but she couldn’t tell if that twisting and grumbling with fighting.
It wasn’t until they were outside andthe cold air rustled her hair into her eyes, momentarily blinding her, that Jacob twisted from her grip and fell on his ass. Evie stuck out a hand to assist him, but he glared and pushed her hand away.
“Come on, Jacob. We have to go.” She said as calmly as she could muster.
Jacob pout, his eyes smoldering. This was a face he reserved when he was most upset. She’d seen this face when they were children and she’d found him in one of his hiding spots, or won a game. Looking down on him now, she saw the young Jacob again; but, she pushed it aside. Jacob was older now, a man, and he had responsibilities.
“Come on, Jacob. Just take my hand, and-”
“No.” He slurred, attempting to get up. She offered her hand again, and again he slapped it away.
“Jacob-”
“No!” He growled, now standing upright and staring her in the eye. “I’m not going back there. I don’t belong there. I’m not an Assassin.”
“Must you be so dramatic?” She crossed her arms, her temper flaring. “It’s our responsibility, Jacob. Father would want us to-”
“You’re not Father. You can’t tell me what to do!”
“Jacob!”
“Just because you blame yourself for Father’s death, doesn’t mean I have to!”
“Jacob! Stop it!” That stung. That actually stung her heart. Hot tears welled in her eyes, but Jacob was glaring at her. He couldn’t see her vulnerable like this. She needed to get him home.
“We both know you’re the Assassin, Evie, not me. You go, you lead the Brotherhood. I’m better off here. My place is here.”
He heart softened because now she could see he too had tears in his eyes.
“Father never wanted me to be an Assassin, he knew I’d never make it! You’re the Assassin! You’re the smart one, the talented one! The world needs you! I’m only in the Brotherhood because I’m your brother! Father told me I’d never make it, and he was right!” Jacob’s voice broke, but he continued his rant. “I’m not good enough, Evie, so just leave me be. I’m good at this! I’m good at being a drunk, and being useless, and…and…”
Evie dropped her arms and walked up to him, surrounding him in her arms. He bent down to receive her and began to openly sob. She shushed him, and stroked his head.
“It’s ok, Jacob, it’s ok. You don’t have to be an Assassin if you don’t want to be.” She cooed, and he mumbled something, between the sobbing and the fact that he was drunk, that was unintelligible.
“F-Father won’t be mad?” He asked.
“Father would understand. Now let’s get you to bed, shall we?”
