while we’re on the topics of ai, the em dash, and (as an example right here) the oxford comma — (oh look another example) can i just say some things as a writer:
i can assure you that my high-school english teacher would have failed me if i didn’t use an oxford comma. even in elementary school, i was always taught to use the oxford comma. if it wasn’t included before the word “and,” i would get points taken off. i thought everyone learned this growing up, but apparently not since some of you are bold enough to accuse people of using ai sources just because they use it.
i love the em dash. i don’t give a fuck, i will NEVER quit using it. yes, it has become one of the main indicators to find out whether a person has used chat gpt or not, BUT are we not forgetting that most ai sites pull from work in which actual people have written. just because i choose to use the em dash where i see fit in MY writing doesn’t mean that i use chat gpt. as i have written on my page, i do not condone the use of ai. therefore i use an em dash because i genuinely just love it. you’ll rarely ever see me use “…” in my work, but you will see me use “—“ just because i think it’s more suited and professional towards my writing style.
also because i’ve seen multiple people do this to the point where i’ve started to do it, i was always taught in school that starting a sentence with but or and was incorrect. even in college, my professors advise the class not to do so. i was also taught to always use a comma before but in a sentence no matter the context. same thing goes for using spaces after a comma, em dash, or ellipses.
so in conclusion, before accusing someone of using ai — let’s gather a little more factual evidence and hear their side of the story. everyone was taught to write differently and obviously have different quirks in their writing. just because you don’t do something or don’t approve of something doesn’t mean that another person has the same perspective.
no thoughts, just cocktraining with mingyu, that’s it.
well that wraps up my “dating seventeen includes…” series !!! nsfw versions next ????
