The Good China are pleased to announce the release of 'You Looked Better A Brunette', the latest single lifted from their EP 'We Knew That We Had To Leave'. Calling on the indie-funk swagger of The Strokes and Bombay Bicycle Club, 'Brunette' is a bright and brash pop number, its swirl of synth and guitars hiding a darker story of disconnection and disillusion. As with the other tracks found on the EP, Brunette carries with it a theme of change - telling the tale of a fatally damaged relationship, spiralling out of control from both the narrator and their other half. It's a brutal catalogue of small moments of despair - cutting your hair to try to fit in with the crowd; spending an entire night avoiding making eye contact - that culminates in a chorus devastating in its simplicity: "I preferred you when we met/You looked better a brunette." Filmed on location in Nagano, Japan, the music video for 'You Looked Better A Brunette' is an abstract look at a community of Japanese macaque snow monkeys, a fascinating animal that displays an uncanny similarity to human beings - right down to their fondness for warming themselves in hot springs in order to escape their wintery surrounds. The footage of these peculiar creatures and their social hierarchy, with their various friendships and fights, gives a unique perspective to a song that itself looks at our own interactions with those people close to us.
