THE ENTIRE CASTLE WAS IN A FLURRY OF RUSH ——– THE TRUMPETS HAD SOUNDED, servants were thundering around the castle, preparing for the arriving guests, scurrying into the kitchens to make sure food, enough for an entourage, was being prepared ——– for no doubt their guests would be starving. rayne had arrived at the telmarine court, her small adopted daughter in her arms, and her adopted niece vanessa at her side, nearly two months prior. her sister-in-law, arlise, was expected to come after ——– so long as she survived the dangerous journey out of narnia into telmar.
their beloved country was in shambles ——– ANARCHY rampaged across their nation after their husbands and sister-in-laws, the pevensie siblings, disappeared. narnia’s enemies took the opportunity to march into the confusion, and start a war. they did not want to see consorts on the throne, nor did they want to see the pevensie children on the throne ——– they wanted the throne for THEMSELVES. rayne had spent the past two months worrying about her family ——– she had heard rumors, but did not want to believe anything so dreadful.
rayne rushed out of the castle with the other nobles, her daughter held tight in her arms as always, and young vanessa came rushing at her side. it was her daughter’s weight in her arms that kept her from shaking too terribly. she was fearful ——– fearful of the rumors, fearful of who would not show up ——– ever again.
the road dust was quite large ——– silently telling them their party was of decent size ——– but not nearly large enough to be the rest of her family. it was bad enough that two ships were to have arrived weeks ago ——– ships containing some of her nieces and nephews. it had never been seen again after it hastily left narnia’s docks.
rayne silently lifted her hand up to her eyes, shielding the blinding sun, her eyes in a tight squint ——– hoping to make out someone ——– anyone ——– in the oncoming party. but as the party got closer, it was little vanessa who had made someone out first, and rayne found herself running after her niece, listening to her excited shouts aimed at her mother.
with courtesy, rayne left her niece run at and hug her mother, and eagerly awaited her turn to take her beloved sister-in-law into her arms, grateful that she had arrived safely at last ——– and eager to take her aside and discuss what had become of the others ——– if she knew anything definite ——– and if she had heard of the same rumors.
❛ oh, how i’ve missed you. we’ve all missed you, dearly. i am so, so happy you are alright. ❜
