I painted these a few months back while Kabul was falling live on TV. The first one, “1919” is the year the Third Anglo-Afghan war ended. The war ended a century ago, and the dead cannot speak, that’s why his mouth is closed. The second painting, “1989,” the end of the Soviet-Afghan War. I haven’t met any of those veterans, nor heard their words, but they’re still walking the earth, telling their tales to someone who listens. His mouth is only slightly open, because while he speaks, I cannot hear it. The third, “2021,” the Taliban took Kabul the day America left. The skeleton’s mouth is wide, because I am still screaming. There’s plenty of other art on my website to check out, and I’m open for commissions, so DM me if you want me to paint you something. #thegraveyardofempires #Afghanistan #marines #army #sovietarmy #britisharmy #royalmarines #oef #oefveteran #veteranartist #kabul #kabulafghanistan #veterans https://www.instagram.com/p/CVJAH_ir8Cf/?utm_medium=tumblr
