Sorry if I'm annoying you but you're kinda my go-to person for college questions... I'm making lists of stuff I need to buy/bring. What non-obvious things would you recommend? (You can make this public if you want other peeps to know as well. :) )
YAAASSS you know I love answering college questions
(Fun fact this year I wanna apply to be a blogger for my school and I need an idea for an example post and this is actually what my post was gonna be so WHOA YOU GET AN EARLY SNEAK PEAK LUCKY YOU)
So for regular packing, there’s obviously a ton of resources out there. I personally highly recommend the list Bed Bath and Beyond gives out, it’s super helpful. But of course, there are always those weird things you don’t know you need until it’s 3 AM and your friend is knocking on your door asking for red glitter and you’re like “Darn I can’t believe I picked the medical pack over the glitter what was I thinking??”
Don’t bring the medical pack over the glitter.
Some things you may need to bring to college, based on my first year:
A thermometer: Ok, so you really should bring a medical pack, with all sorts of bandaids and neosporne and Advil and Tyelonol and ice packs and wrist wraps and large bandaids (I’m a fan of being over prepared) and, weirdly, a thermometer. When you wake up at noon feeling sick and you call your mom and say “Mom, I’m sick”, what’s the first thing she’s gonna ask? She’s gonna ask if you have a high temperature and do you wanna wander down the halls of your dorm room asking strangers to borrow something you stick in your mouth? No. You don’t want to do that. Mono is a thing, guys. So bring a thermometer.
Stress Relief Supplies: College is rough and you will inevietably find a time when you’ve been studying advanced nuclear physics for hours and you’re pretty sure you’ve actually learned less than what you started with and you just wanna buy an ice cream truck and spend your days driving around the country giving children free ice cream. You need some stress relief. I, personally, keep the 100-pack colored pencils in my desk, along with a pack of crayons, a pack of markers, and some more specialized colors of pencils. You can get whatever floats your boat. Preschoolers have it down- coloring is the best thing EVER. You can bring your own coloring book, or just print out a good picture online. I would also recommend those special stress-relief coloring books, those are cool. Really, whatever works best for you. Also, you can decorate your walls with the finished products which is great
Earplugs: You might be friends with the people living above you, but when it’s past midnight and their band is jamming out, I can guarantee you won’t be feeling the warm and fuzzies toward them. Bring some earplugs to drown them out so you can get some sleep
Fuzzy Socks: A college essential. A life essential, actually. For studying, for sleeping, for movie days when you sit around with your friends and marathon all of the Harry Potters while eating cookies stolen from the dining hall. A must have.
Sticky Tack, Tape, Command Hooks: Colleges have this pesky rule where you can’t put holes in the walls to hang things up. For smallers pictures and things, sticky tack is nice, or tape if you have to. For photo boards, arts and crafts, hanging things, what have you, go for the command hooks. As long as you don’t pick too small of a size, they’re life savers.
Glitter: Don’t even ask, just bring itÂ
That dress you bought for a specific event and you’re like “Oh I probably won’t need it at school because it’s a very specific dress and there might not be an occassion for me to wear it: There is always an occassion. (For real, though, have at least one or two nicer outfits, because your school might have a dance, or maybe your friends will want to have a fancy dinner or something. Or for a Halloween costume. Or a job interview)
