Charles sat on the floor, listening intently to his grandfather as he described what he wanted for Christmas. He blinked in surprise at the answer—gloves? He didn’t think he would be happy with gloves himself, and he would have thought that his grandfather would have wanted something more—well, fun.
Christmas was his favorite holiday. Any time he got to see Grandpapa and Grandmama was wonderful, but he particularly enjoyed spending the holiday with them, and of course receiving presents. His eyes lit up at his question, and he too paused in thought. “I’d really like a pony.”
Albert’s eyebrows went up at the request for a pony, he smiled and while he tried to give nothing away, he supposed that it was about time that his grandson learned to ride as his daughters had. He was of the right age and it would do the lad good to get out with the family on a trustworthy little pony.
“Well, I am -sure that is a -perfectly wonderful idea.” He hummed as if it was thoughtful, “But you -do of -course understand that a -pony is a -big -commitment, they require much more -attention and -time -learning -together than a -horse.” All of his own horses were retired police horses, calm and controlled, that would not be the case with a pony. “You will -have -to work with them -for many years.”
