“He was nowhere near me, Sybil—they tackled him before he could get to me, and he was a terrible shot.” Charles recounted calmly, unfazed by the assassination attempt just that day. He was used to this sort of thing, and even when it was happening, he didn’t feel the slightest hint of fear—not because he considered himself to be particularly brave, but he supposed it was just a subconscious reaction from years of not showing his emotions. “It’s really nothing to be worried about, honestly. I’m fine.” he reassured his wife again, laying his hand over hers.
The woman was already furious, and her husbands relaxed manner towards the incident only angered her further. “Just because the man didn't get to you Charles, doesn't mean he wasn't close.” Sybil had spent the day pacing after seeing the news, and even now she continued to do so. playing with the ring on her finger. She stopped all movements though once she felt her husbands hand on her own and the woman took in a deep breath before she turned her gaze on the man. “You may not have been scared, but I was terrified. And I had to find out through the news of all things.”
