I have author recs, rather than specific books, but anything by Tamora Pierce or Kristin Cashore are lovely and detailed and have strong female characters.

Awesome! I actually already had the Graceling series by Kristin Cashore, but I used this rec as an excuse to move it up the list. :) I’ve already read Graceling and I loved it! I’ll have to check out Tamora Pierce as well!

Have you tried 'The Sons of Thestian'? It's a new ya fantasy book, and has good reviews on goodreads.
