SCRATCHING HIS chin, Luther’s eyes finally swept up to meet Elizabeth’s face. “I know it’s not the greatest Christmas,” they were in the middle of nowhere, hiding, without even a Christmas tree. Still, somehow, he had made sure he could get her a present. “But this is for you…” He held it out, a small box. Inside was a silver necklace, interwoven with peculiar symbols. The hunter waited until the siren, the woman he loved, drew the chain out of the black box. “It’s to protect from evil and bad luck.” Luther provided the explanation; a year ago, he would not have been capable of such a thing; all supernatural creatures were, he believed, inherently evil. “Merry Christmas, Elizabeth.” The male said, a surprising warmth in his voice.
The siren was returning to the living area with hot coca in tow, when Luther caught her completely off guard. “Wait, what? I thought we promised each other no gifts.” Honestly, Elizabeth had been so worried with hiding and making sure they were both safe that the holiday had nearly slipped her mind. “Luther, you didn’t have to get me anything..” But at the sight of the box, her heart did a little flutter. It warmed her to know that through all the madness he still thought of something special. Just for her. Placing their chocolaty treat down on the coffee table, she lowered herself on the edge of it. “Oh my god.. Luther..” Letting out a soft sigh, she lifted the silver chain from the box. “It’s stunning..” Her emerald hues flickered between the hunter and the necklace, her lips twisting upward into a gentle smile. Inching forward, the redhead shifted from the table onto the human’s lap. “I can’t thank you enough for this.. Seriously, it’s perfect.” Placing her free hand on his cheek, she leaned in and brushed her nose against his. Gazing into his icy hues, she couldn’t contain the endless rush of affection that was pulsing through her in this moment. It floored her that after everything they’d been through, after all the trouble she’d put him through, that he loved her. “You continue to amaze me.. And I’ll never understand why you’ve stuck around but I’m so happy you have.” Closing the distance between them, she pressed a kiss against his lips before pulling back just enough to speak. “I love you..”
