The Circle of Little Animals

You absolutely MUST spill the deets on this. ...

Thanks! :D It's a crime/mystery story inspired by The Count of Monte Cristo and the works of Charles Dickens. The main characters are Evelyn, a literary agent who Did Not Sign Up For This, and Sinclair, Evelyn's unwanted housemate who is working on an elaborate revenge plot and might not be human at all. Other characters include an author trying to find her missing sister and a professor who keeps finding corpses in his car.

Early Blorbo Blurbsday!! Who is the hardest character for you to write and why? Easiest?

Hello! Thanks for the ask!

The easiest character for me to write is probably Kristopher, or maybe Fallon. (Honestly, it's both of them.) The reason being that they're my favorites, and also the characters I've had for the longest.

My usual answer to the hardest character is usually Lavinia, because I struggle with her characterization, not to mention balancing her false self and her real one.

But I think that the character who is actually going to be the hardest to write is probably the Narrator from High Fantasy WIP. The story is told from an omniscent perspective, but the Narrator is in fact a character in his own right. (My original inspiration for him was the narrator, Death, from The Book Thief. So picture that, but make the story in question a bit more lighthearted.)

I feel like balancing his personality and making him more than just a bland conventional 3rd person narrator with getting the characters right is going to be hard. But I want to do it so badly!!! I think it would be amazing if I can pull it off someday!!

For a little more context on the Narrator, he's a raven who serves as a soul collector for the goddess of death in the world of High Fantasy WIP. The idea is that he catches sight of one or more of the characters after a death at the very beginning of the book, and somewhat against his will, he becomes attached to them. I haven't decided if I'll go with this or not, but I was toying with the idea of having it be implied that the story is being told after the party's death, far in the future. (I should note that he's telling the story to the goddess of death.)

So yeah, he's definitely going to be an interesting character to write and explore, and he's the main reason that I think that High Fantasy WIP is above my skill level at the moment. I'll write it someday, but that day is not today.

ABRIELLA

Abriella Estephania Bethania Isabella Engel

QUEEN OF UPPER IMPERIUM AND LOWER CALIGO

Horseman of Death, Grigori of The Source, Elemental, Nephilim, Queen of Hell, Princess of Heaven..all are titles that Abriella (Brie) holds.  Her powers, no one is quite sure of those.  She can command the powers of nature, jump between realms, drain the life from any being, return life to the dead, heal, manifest items, and teleport other beings with just a thought…and those are just the ones she uses most often.  While she is immortal, she is still able to be wounded and even killed if one knows how.  Beheading is the easiest way, easy being a relative term in her case.

Her mother the Angel of Nature, her father was a dark mage that was a son of Lucifer.  The woman who raised her came to fear and loathe her, leading her young life to be one of fear and punishment.  When she became of an age where her powers started to develop, and the spells the sorceress had put on her started to fail, Brie then had a death sentence put on her head.  Sensing the danger she was in, Brie ran from all she had ever known.

An innate sense of direction leading her, she made her way to Chicago where a predestine run in with Dez and Talia eventually brought her home into a Nephilim Sanctuary.  It was there that for the first time that she learned of her brother Cruz and others of her kind, and also exactly what she was.  Even that was not an easy road, with many mountains to climb and some bumps that threatened to derail the whole thing.  

In the years since that fateful day, she has gone from someone who always looked over her shoulder and flinched at a raised hand to a woman who is a force of nature in her own right.  Now the demons run in fear an even deities respect her.  As Queen she has crafted her Royal Guard who are loyal and steadfast.  The other Horsemen are all family, and fight as one.  She has earned the respect and loyalty of both angels and demons.  Deities respect her, Pantheons fear her, and realms often quake when she arrives.  While she never lords it over anyone’s head, there is no doubt that she truly is QUEEN.

What are your characters' thoughts on multi-person relationships?

In The Power and the Glory, polygamy of various sorts is legal in different counties. Seroyawa and Gengxin practice polygyny (one man marrying lots of women) while Saoridhlém practices polyandry (one woman marrying lots of men).

Seroyawa has mostly turned against polygamy, though, and now it's only practiced by the royal family. Saoridhlém, on the other hand, still has polyandry but it's mostly practiced by the working class -- if one woman marries several brothers, the brothers' parents only have to pay one dowry, making it much cheaper for them than arranging separate marriages for all of their sons.

The characters' attitudes mostly reflect where and how they were raised, and the circumstances they live in: Mirio, a concubine's son, has pretty negative thoughts on polygamy, while Ilaran, a prince who needs to forge alliances with as many other principalities as possible, wouldn't personally practice it but thinks it's a good idea.

Currently my favourite character is Yo-han, because he's already more-or-less solved the mystery and it's fun to show him noticing little details that will be important later! (Though it's not so much fun to try to conceal what those details are so the reader is still surprised at the end...)

CHYMAE - How old is this world?

The monarchy? 1,000 or something, ask the Normands, this world, is our world, but vampires and historical fiction/horror. Trouble is, the ancien régime is corrupt, debauched and far worse than just that. That 1,000 year old monarchy is about to implode into terror and bloodshed.
