Cullen woke to a lion gnawing at his sock, the warm dampness incomprehensibly distressing, coupled with the razor-sharp cub teeth pricking unpleasantly the soft soles of his feet too upsetting to sleep through. It was strange not having Kitty and Lydia rolling about on his face to wake him, but he was glad of their protectiveness for Dite that kept them by her side, practically day and night. Someone had to make sure she was safe from Ares, and Cullen couldn’t be there all hours of the day, as much as he might have liked to be.
But this morning, he woke early enough to have a shower and a shave before breakfast, and invigorated with his Sunday ritual, he made his way to Dite’s tent, with the intention of asking her to breakfast before she went to practice.
“Dite, are you decent?” he called, standing considerately just beyond the flap of her tent, careful not to peek inside in case she wasn’t. “You feel like breakfast today?”
