I watched today #TheInternMovie for the second time. It reminded of my own situation in the U.S. The fact is I have been an intern in some different organizations. Considering my age (43) I have been almost experiencing the same situation as the character of #RobertDeNiro, with one twist, I am a #Muslim from #MiddleEast and a #Refugee. The American society maybe a bit hostel against an aged experienced man working with young co-workers, however it's tougher when you are aged, experienced and not white. In any place I worked as an intern hostility was high. Although my knowledge of technology is update and I have a valuable hands on experience, just because of my ethnicity, religious and race background I was pushed away a lot. It's like a soccer team has a winning player but due to the prejudice of the team members and the coach they prefer to lose rather than winning by the help of an outsider. It goes all the way to every level of the society. There are great number of experts immigrated to the United States who work in some jobs much lower than their qualifications. The situation has given unsatisfactory life to the #refugees and #immigrants, but has harmed more the society in whole. Many refugees/immigrants have spent significant number of years to earn and expand the skills they have. Skills are more valuable when they have been put to use. Besides, the global market needs a society with an international perspective not a limited and obsessed one. Googling some information will give an organization only a surface of the entire knowledge. Therefore, is more critical to use the actual knowledge from the actual people living in the U.S.

The other day I went to see The Intern, starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. While coming out of the theatre, one-hour fiftyish minutes later, every single person had the same expression; Misty eyes and a goofy smile slapped on the face. Not many flicks have the power to make you tear up with the simplest of emotions, but The Intern certainly did so. For those who haven’t yet heard of the movie, let me give you a short premise.

The Intern is the heart-warming story of an adorable 70-year-old retired Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro) who tries a second inning at work. While walking through the streets one day, he comes across a pamphlet stating the need for “senior interns” at the newly successful e-commerce giant, run by Jules Austen (Anne Hathaway). He applies for it and voila! Gets selected. Whittaker’s charm and experience guide Jules through her own crisis, and gradually a special bond and friendship forms between the two of them.
