What's not to love about Caribbean food? The Jerk Joint has exceptionally great Jamaican Cuisine! I ordered several items to taste, all of which impressed me equally. After this experience I need to slowly eat my way through their entire menu! The Jerk Joint's menu is filled with so many golden dishes it makes it hard to narrow down a meal. I was tempted by the Bolt Burger which is a 6oz sirloin/ground beef marinated for 48 hours in their Jerk Spice blend topped with sautéed onions on coco bread. However, seeing as I am a wing lover I ordered 1 pound of Jerk Wings. On top of the wings I ordered Jerk Fries, 5 Piece Plantain, and a Spicy Beef Patty with Coco Bread. My eyes were certainly larger than my stomach but as I write this review this meal no longer exists, it is merely a very delicious memory.
To start, I began nomming on the Spicy Beef Patty and CocoBread. Not the most productive idea, once I started eating this delectably addictive patty I couldn't stop until I had finished it all! Wow, it is a full meal in itself. The fact that it only costs $4.00 is deceiving for how filling and delicious it is. I needed to take a serious break before diving into the rest of my meal. The Jerk Joint gets their patties made fresh daily and delivered from Toronto's finest Tinnel's Patties. The fresh herbs, fresh spices and the spicy scotch bonnet peppers make these spicy beef patties highly addictive. The coco bread is the perfect balance to the spice of the patty and was mostly responsible for the full feeling after eating. The entire patty and coco bread deal would lend itself well to a perfect lunch on the go!
After I started regaining my appetite I moved on to devour the rest of my meal.
The Jerk Wings were absolutely delicious! They tasted like a secret home recipe that came straight from Jamaica. Stars across the board on this one. The Jerk Wings come as full chicken wings which I highly prefer to ones that come with the drums and wings separated. That way I don't miss out on any of the flavour. I am quite the carnivore and clean wings down to the bone in single bites. Every piece of the chicken wing counts and the Jerk Joint gives it to you straight up and proper. The meat is cooked to perfection and the Jamaican Jerk flavour is so embedded in the meat, I know it has had a long preparation process. From the Jerk Spice Rub to the marinating and brining, to the slow cooking process in a steel drum over charcoal that enhances the spicy smokey flavour. These wings fall off the bone and are juicy and tender, loaded with authentic and delicious flavour. All that is left is a pile of squeaky clean bones and a satisfied stomach. If you love Jamaican Jerk these wings will not let you down.
As I was enjoying those magnificent wings I was simultaneously cooling my mouth down with carbs. I ordered Jerk Fries and Plantain which were a surprising treat and paired perfectly with the Jerk Wings. Surprising in the sense that I had no idea how epic these Jerk Fries actually were! These perfectly crispy fries are tossed in The Jerk Joint's dry Jerk sauce and transforms the simple fry into a flavour masterpiece! Words. Cannot. Describe. The Plantain was an essential side to the Jerk Wings as they are the perfect sweetness and starchiness to accompany the heavy spice of the Jerk Chicken. The Plantain is fried and caramelized to a gorgeous golden brown and is softer on the inside. TOO GOOD!
I'm starting to daydream of a Jamaican Poutine made with these Jerk Fries, Jerk Pork and Oxtail Gravy...yummmmmmm
Maybe Chef Colin Dean Walker will read this post and make my daydreams come true, adding a poutine to the menu! If not, next time I get delivery from Orderit.ca I will order ALL of those things and make one myself!
