12. Is the way your muse sees themselves similar to how others see them or is it (very) different, due to mental illness/keeping secrets/etc.?
Despite the amount of self-confidence Yosuke projects on the daily, whether it be around his family members and peers or in the spotlight center stage, he perceives himself in a very different light when there isn’t an audience to please. Since Y2K’s disbanding, and being pushed by his manager to take on the solo career that was ‘supposedly waiting for him’, he feels that there are few positive merits to who he is as a person (and performer), and the events that followed due to the decisions he’s made over the years. Media and his ever-growing fanbase have a sure enough idea of who he is–he’s Hani, the promiscuous socialite of Takura Productions who’s charismatic personality and charming words are enough to sweep anyone off their feet–and yet, Yosuke isn’t too certain if that person is him. In actuality, it feels almost as if he’s lost the memories of that doe-eyed elementary school student who begged his parents repeatedly to sign him up for dance/vocal lessons. He can’t make a face of the kid who danced in the living room whenever a music video of his favorite band came on TV, let alone remember the reason behind his want to join the world of glitz and glamour and songwriting and competition and scandals and forgetfulness and being tossed aside like you’re nothing.
Yosuke knows that he’s become the physical representation of a doormat, and he knows that he’s done nothing to change that. This career is the only good thing he has going for himself, and to lose that after all of the hard work he put in to get to the top is unacceptable. So he takes the brunt of the industry with stride. Giving his signature smiles and playful winks whenever the camera lands on him, and continues on with recording away as his manager asks of him. Because he can’t walk away from this life… because he knows there’s nothing else he could do if everything went to shit, so he’ll go above and beyond to keep himself significant in the eyes of the masses. To keep himself known. Even if it means degrading himself beyond belief. And it is that mentality which leaves Yosuke ashamed of his choices ashamed of where he’s gotten himself career wise, and yet… he can’t stop. He doesn’t want to.
Or better yet, he’s too scared to.
“You’re pathetic.” A phrase he’s told himself more often than he’d like to remember. “They’d never take you back after how fast you caved to temptation. Even if you groveled before them. They want nothing to do with you, Hani. They haven’t wanted anything to do with you for two years… so there’s no reason to keep up the hopeful charade. No one’s buying it.”
19. How concerned are they with their appearance and how do they regard the appearance of others? Do they find it important? Do they enjoy aesthetically pleasing people?
Appearance is a really major thing to Yosuke. Mainly because it’s his money maker, it’s his career and therefore his source of income. He goes out of his way to make sure he looks good as can be, from his seasonal hairstyle to the latest fashions that are usually shipped from overseas. Dishevelment is not the type of look he’s trying to promote as Hani, and it’d only be in a case of switching the direction he was aiming for with his on-stage persona that he’d ever contemplate changing up his style. When it comes to other people, however, he doesn’t seem to make much of a fuss because criticizing a person’s choice of dress or appearance isn’t Yosuke’s cup of tea. Sure, he might be a bit put off because that’s the kind of person he is, but making offhand suggestions without anyone asking isn’t something he likes to do.
There may be those days when he’ll give a helping hand if you ask, though. Or if you accompany him on a shopping trip to some expensive clothing store in the city he might send an outfit your way that he chose on his own accord, more so because he eventually picks up on the fashion choices of his friends and generally goes from there. In short, Yosuke’s the type of give people a show they’ll never forget, even if it only has to do with the European boots he purchased a few days back, and he especially loves it when others join in on the festivities. Usually, it’s Chie and Kumajiro who gets roped into his antics.
